Chapter 7 - Kidnap or Surprise?

*****

I slammed my locker shut. Lunch. I let out a sigh as I walked towards the cafeteria. And you are right, today is the day. Breakup Day.

Even though I really hate Ashley, but that doesn't mean she has to survive a break up under the attention and humiliation of crowd.

I needed to help her.

As I head to the cafeteria with April, I searched for Jacob and Ashley among all the people roaming down the hallways.

"Haz, mind if I have lunch with Wayne today? Please?" April's voice startled me as I turned around to her.

"Oh, um, yeah it's okay," I answered, continued searching for Jacob.

She went with Wayne cheerily and disappeared into the sea of people.

I felt a tap on my shoulder but ignored it. Probably just somebody who's careless. I suggested in my head.

There was another tap before I turned around. Jacob.

"Hey," He greeted.

"Oh, hi,"I said. "Do you mind having lunch with me today? April had gone off with Wayne and I need to have lunch alone," I suggested, hoping he won't turn me down.

I did the best puppy eyes I could do.

He scratched his head and buried his head into his hands for a moment.

It seemed like a century before he replied, "Fine."

"Thanks a lot!" I squealed.

He looked at me and I didn't dare to break the eye contact so we just stand there, not moving a single muscle, staring at each other.

As the tension build up, I just hope that something would happen to give me an excuse and break the connection.

"Get lost, nerd!" somebody suddenly shouted from behind and shoved past me. I lost balance and luckily Jacob caught me in time.

I looked at him and averted my gaze awkwardly. I blushed and turned my head around, hoping he won't notice it.

"I saw it, sugar. It's okay,"he smirked.

I yanked his hand away gently and lead him to the fully-packed cafeteria.

"So, how's your week been going?" I asked, attempting to breaking the awkward atmosphere.

"It's plain and dull without you, sugar," he flirted. I giggled half-heartedly.

"We saw each other yesterday, Jake. It's not like even a whole day," I said.

He stared at me like I was a freak or something. "What?" I asked as we got in line to pick up some food.

"Nobody never calls me Jake. Never."

"I'll be the first then, Jake," I said as I rolled my eyes.

He mumbled something under his breath, but I didn't catch it.

"Excuse me?" I asked, trying not to sound rude.

"Jake. Sugar, Jake. My name is Jake,"He said it like he discovered America or something.

"Yeah, your name is Jake," I said worriedly with a frown. "What's wrong with that?"

"Nothing. Just never realized I was Jake."

"You don't like it?"

"It's actually pretty cool," He turned up and looked at me, smiling.

The lunch lady scooped some chicken for us before we left the counter. I mumbled a 'thank you' and left quickly.
