I wanted to know more about the Vampaneze, so when I had gotten home from school today, I went into my father's library/office and I searched for books about the Vampaneze, but surprisingly, I found none.
"That's odd," I said to myself, as I put the book that I had taken out, away.
I figured my dad would have something on the Vampaneze, after all, he had books on vampires, werewolves, witches, warlocks and etc. He even had a bestiary of arcanic creatures.
I wanted to ask my dad if he knew anything about the Vampaneze, but unfortunately, my dad was outdoing Huntsmen stuff and I didn't know when he'd be back. So, I decided to head back to my room, or at least, I was going to when I spotted something out of the corner of my right eye.
What I had spotted was underneath my father's mahogany desk, a rug to be exact.Although, the rug itself wasn't important, as it was just a red rug with detailed designs on it. It was what was underneath the rug that interested me the most. You see, the rug had been displaced from it's normal spot, which normally covered the part of the floor that was underneath the desk. My father probably did it without realizing it.
Anyways, what had caught my attention, was a gold colored handle, which was sticking out of the dark wooden floor. Curious, I walked behind my father's desk and I moved the chair and the rug out of the way, only to reveal what looked to be a floor safe. Unfortunately, there was a keyhole, which meant I needed a key to unlock it.
So,I searched around my father's desk and after some time, I finally found the key in one of the smaller sized drawers, underneath what was a false bottom. With the key now in hand, I unlocked the safe and I opened it, and inside was a very old and dusty book, the title of which, read: Vampire Index.
Even more curious now than I was before, I grabbed the book from the safe and I opened it up to the first page. At the top of the page was the word Vampirism. As for the rest of the page, and the pages after it, they were talking about the effects of Vampirism and how they changed the human body. Then, next chapter talked about something called Strigoi, which I had never heard of.
I skipped to the third chapter and again, I saw something I had never heard of. This time the word Dhampir popped up.
"What in the hell?" I said, shocked at what I was reading.
I was going to continue reading, but my head perked up at the sound of a vehicle pulling into the driveway. I figured it was my dad, so I peaked through the curtains and as I thought, my dad had come home.
Icursed.
Oh well, I guess I'd just have to read it another time. Though, I wasn't sure when I was going to get another chance to read it. Still, I didn't want my dad to find out, so I quickly put everything back to the way it was, and I ran up to my room, where I stayed there, only coming down to eat dinner.
I was waiting for my dad to be alone, as I didn't want anyone else to be around. It didn't take very long for my chance to come, as my mother had decided to go to bed early. So, as soon I heard her door shut, I walked down stairs to the living room, only to find it empty.
He must've been in his office, so I went and checked and sure enough he was there, just as I thought he'd be. My dad actually spent a lot of time in the office when he wasn't out working. Though, I had no idea what he was doing. After all,he didn't have a regular job, like Desmond's parents did. His job was to be a Huntsmen and do Huntsmen things, like killing vampires, arresting witches and etc. So, whenever I saw him in his office, I'd always wonder what he was doing.
Sure, I could've just asked him, but he probably would've just ignored me.
Anyways,I walked into the room and my dad looked at me through his reading glasses. "Eli? Something wrong?"
