TW: panic attack
Evan's POV
I looked over at Jared, who had fallen asleep, and smiled. I let him sleep and went back to my task of braiding Connor's hair. He was keeping a steady conversation with Alana and Zoe.
Everyone seemed happy and content in that moment. The girls and Connor were laughing; I don't know why. I wasn't really inclined to listen. So, I was left to my thoughts.
I was kind of indifferent, right now. I could be dying. Heart failure is serious. So, why wasn't I scared? I felt tired. Maybe that was it. I was just tired. Yeah...
I kept thinking about everything as I messed with Connor's soft hair. I gave him kind of French braids along both sides of his head. I asked him for a hair tie and he handed me one from his wrist. I tied the remaining hair at the back of his head.
I tried not to move too much, Jared was sleeping on my shoulder. He looked so peaceful and I didn't want to wake him up. He so rarely looked like this, and I wished he could be at peace all the time.
I looked down at Connor, still sitting on the floor. He laughed at something Zoe said. The smile on his face and the sound of his laugh made me smile.
I leaned my head on Jared's. He didn't wake up, as I expected. He was a pretty deep sleeper. I spaced out for a while. The next thing I heard was Zoe saying that she and Alana should go.
She said, "Connor, we're gonna go. Do you want me to bring you clothes or anything?"
"No," Connor said. "It's okay. I'll go by tomorrow morning." He stood up, and hugged Zoe. "I'll see you later. Stay safe."
"I will. Bye, Evan. Jared... is asleep," Zoe replied.
I chuckled. I waved at Zoe and Alana as they left. Connor came back to the couch. This time, he sat on the other side of Jared. We sat there for a bit. I didn't really know how to start the conversation.
I didn't have to. Jared stirred on my shoulder. He groaned at being awake. I kissed the top of his head. He looked up at me, and smiled. It was a small smile, but it was better than nothing.
He kissed me on the cheek and sat up. He seemed to finally realize that Connor was sitting next to him, and hugged his arm.
Connor smiled. Jared sat back up. The three of us sat for a bit, before Jared asked, "Who wants food?"
Connor and I agreed that we were both hungry. Jared got up and headed to kitchen. Connor helped me up and I trailed behind him into the kitchen.
Jared looked to be making sandwiches. Connor went over and helped. There wasn't much room in the kitchen for three people to stand in there and cook. So, I stood back and let them do their thing.
Connor turned around and handed me a sandwich, holding another in his other hand. I thanked him, and took the sandwich.
After the three of us ate, we went back to the living room. Jared asked what we wanted to do. None of us knew what, exactly, we wanted to do. So, we sat there, in silence. We didn't even try to talk.
Connor and Jared seemed a bit bored, but I wasn't fazed by the lack of activity. Connor suddenly got up and asked, "Evan, where's your computer?"
I told him, "I-it's in my room. Why?"
"I want you guys to watch something," he replied.
Connor disappeared into my room and reappeared with my laptop. He sat down and opened YouTube. He typed in a few things and clicked on a video with a seemingly cryptic title.
