"i am stuck between trying to live my life and trying to run from it."
w o r d c o u n t : 1,473Ezra didn't care much for his birthday, but for Bella's, he was just as ecstatic as Alice. He enjoyed celebrating and he needed to go to the store to by things for a cake and a present for the human girl.
Nik was busy, finally having to go to school after skipping multiple days. Ezra wasn't quite sure how she got away with it so constantly and how her parents ceased to notice but he didn't question it, having his own difficult family situation that he didn't like to talk about.
Because of this, Esme offered to drive him to Seattle and help him shop, which he loved. He bonded with the woman over their mutual love of nature and sometimes went on small hikes in the abundant woods surrounding the illustrious Cullen house.
"So, Ezra, how is your training going?" Esme asked fondly. There was something about the kind woman that made it so even when she was making small talk she made you feel like she was genuinely interested.
"It's well, Esme, thank you. I've been summoning it from my hands now as well and hitting targets very precisely. I'm not anywhere near full utilization of my powers, of course. That takes years and a lot of witches never actually reach that level of absolute full utilization." Ezra explained, glancing over at the motherly vampire. "How have you been faring with your knitting? Getting any better?"
"Actually, yes. A lot. I just finished my scarf for Alice. I was thinking of making a sweater for Bella next because of how cold she gets. Especially in Forks. I was thinking red, it goes rather well with her complexion and her colors." Esme explained as she plucked a container of frosting off the shelf. "Do you have anything to do today?"
"Other than find Bella a gift and help you make a red velvet cake by scratch?" He asked, grinning brightly as he pushed the cart down the aisle. "Absolutely not. I wouldn't dream of it."
They bought the cake ingredients and proceeded to a small boutique, VVV. It rested on the outskirts of Seattle that got very little business, that much was clear by the thin layer of dust resting against everything but the clothes and the middle-aged woman clad in clothes tending to the register that looked as though it hadn't been opened in a hundred years.
"Hello," The woman spoke slowly and deliberately as she scanned them, her voice startlingly monotone. "Welcome, have a look around and tell me if you need anything."
"Thank you," Esme said kindly. "We'll let you know if we do." She smiled absently, her fingers grazing the fabrics.
Looking at the young woman, Ezra was uneasy. There was something about her, something about the aura of the store and the way she acted. Ever since he realized that witch had been following him, he had been hyperaware. Any sign of trouble and he booked it and got his loved ones out of there.
