Ezra allowed the hysterical girl to crawl into his lap, clinging to his neck as the two sat on his bed and he allowed her to sob out her frustrations and sadness.
"How could she just leave me? Three years and she just fucking leaves!" Niki cried, clinging to his hoodie. "How fucking could she! Did I mean nothing to her? Is that it? Was I just a distraction?" Nik begged, her sobs making her almost incomprehensible.
"Shhh," Ezra soothed, rubbing circles into the girl's back. "It's alright, Niki. It's gonna be alright. Everything is gonna be alright."
"How do you know?" Nik demanded. "Paul loves you. He imprinted on you! He'd never leave you! Not in a million years not for anything!" Nik screamed, instantly dissolving into sobs. "I miss her so fucking much, Ezra. I love her. So god damn much. I thought we were meant to be together forever. That she'd change me and we could get married." Nik wailed. "How fucking stupid am I?"
"Nik, listen, you need to breathe, alright. You're going to hyperventilate and pass out." Ezra soothed, choosing to ignore Nik's outburst because if he were to face facts, he'd most likely hyperventilate himself.
His phone began to ring and as soon as he ignored it, it rang again. "Answer the damn phone, Ezra!" Nik screamed and Ezra snatched the phone up, seeing it was Paul and that he had missed sixteen calls.
"Are you alright?" Ezra asked, knowing that if he said the boy's name it'd just make Nik more hysterical. "Nik, I'm going to go make you some tea, alright? Honey vanilla, chamomile, your favorite. I'll be right back, I promise." Ezra pressed a soft kiss to the brunette's head as she curled into his blankets, crying softly into one of the few clothing items her ex-girlfriend had left behind. "Paul, tell me you're alright."
"It's not me, it's the Swan girl. Is she with you?" Paul asked quickly.
"No, I'm with Nik. Paul, the Cullens are gone. Rosalie broke up with Niki and she's shattered. They just up and left. They gave me the goddamn deed to the house until they circle back around. What the fuck do I do with that?" Ezra swallowed thickly. They were his friends too. And they just left and Edward, the entire reason for their leaving, expected Ezra to keep tabs on Bella like a goddamn spy.
Rosalie expected the same, naturally. But fuck. She didn't have to break up with Niki. She didn't have to shatter the girl and leave someone else to pick up the pieces. She could have easily taken Nik with her, changed her or even had a long distance relationship. She didn't have to be as stupid as Edward.
They cut all contact, taking everything from the pair. Every picture, every gift, every memory, every sign they were ever there was gone.
The only calls Ezra bothered to answer were the weekly calls from Esme. Everyone else was at fault in his eyes. Especially Edward and Rosalie.
"Ez, I don't know. I really don't know. But the Swan girl went missing. Billy called us and he asked the four of us to look around and find her. Sam and Jared are on that, Embry's on patrol and he wanted me to see what you knew about what the hell is going on." Paul explained, inhaling sharply. "I'm on my way. I'm bringing Indian food, Nik's in love with Uptown's curry and I know she doesn't eat when she's upset so we're gonna have to practically force it down her throat."
"I'll leave the front door open for you, just lock it behind. And be sensetive, Niki's not in good shape." Ezra sighed in relief. "Paul, have I ever mentioned how amazing you are?"
"I think so but you should mention it again for good measure." Paul attempted to lighten the mood.
"Paul Lahote, you are a godsend." Ezra hung up and slid the phone in his pocket. He poured the steaming water into a mug, watching as the water turned a caramel brown.
He grabbed the mug and took it up to Nik to see her still clutching the baby blue sweater. "C'mon, Nik, sit up. Drink up." He muttered, lifting her on his own and bringing the cup to her lips.
She drank, eager to fall back onto the bed the second he released her and he did. Ezra distinctly heard the front door open, close, and lock before Paul quickly scaled the stairs and opened the door quietly.
"Hi, Nik." He said gently as he set the food on the bedside table. "I brought your favorite curry."
"I don't want it." She responded predictably.
"You only need to take a few bites, Nik. Then you can sleep. I promise." Paul whispered, unboxing the curry and spooning it up for her, feeding her like a child. She was exhausted from everything she had gone through, especially since she ran to the Cullen home from where Rosalie had left her in the woods much like Edward had done to his own girlfriend.
It wasn't long before Paul had coaxed her into finishing the container and Nik passed out, sprawled on Ezra's bed.
"C'mon, there's a guest room." Ezra whispered, leading Paul to the bare room, decorated with a simple mirror, a birch dresser, and a bed with grey bedding. "Did they find Bella?"
"Yeah, asleep on the ground in the woods like it was the most natural thing in the world." Paul explained with a huff.
"I can't believe they'd just leave." Ezra ranted, swallowing thickly. "Just up and leave. How dare they just leave and give me this goddamn house like I know what to do with it! They were my friends!"
"It's gonna be okay, Ez. We're gonna help Nik, we're gonna help you. We're all gonna be okay." Paul promised, pulling Ezra into a tight hug.
"Stay here, Paul. Stay here with us. For a while. Please. We need you here. Nik and I both need you. Just please. Stay with me."
Paul clutched Ezra tighter, burying his face in the crook of the witch's neck. "I'll always stay with you, until you ask me to leave."
