"paper airplanes"

third person point of view

"kenzie, your breakfast is getting cold!" mackenzie's mother yelled from the first story. kenzie rolled her eyes and finished putting on her mascara before rushing down the stairs.

the thumping noise coming from the stairway alerted maddie and melissa that kenzie was here. "sorry, i woke up late." the teen sighed before sliding into the chair.

in front of kenzie were pancakes stacked into layers of three, ready to be demolished.

"i don't even know why you put makeup on kenz. you're homeschooled." maddie said playing with the cut pancake pieces on her plate.

kenzie ignored her sisters comment and ate her breakfast in silence.

there was a loud car honk from outside.

maddie's boyfriend.

"jacks here! by mom." maddie said kissing her mums cheek and waving to her younger sister.

the front door slammed shut, bringing in a fall scented gush of wind. kenzie craved that smell so badly, wishing to go out past the doors of her house to explore something new.

to explore a new food, scent, feeling... anything.

kenzies never been outside of her house.

why?

because she's allergic to the sun.

sounds crazy, right? well the sun will burn her to crisp if she steps outside. kenzie's been born with it and found out about when she was four years old, at the park.

"kenz, come play with me!" kenzie's sister yelled from the sandbox.

kenzie was shielding from the summer sun under a cool umbrella, eating a blue popsicle that stained and her tongue and was dripping from her chin.

kenzie grins at her name being called and leaves the cool of her umbrella to play with her older sister.

kenzie sits her bum in the sand and picks up a shovel, digging a hole.

while digging her meaningless hole, kenzie felt her skin burn. burning heavily and harming her.

little kenzie gasps, "MOMMY!" she shouts at the top of her lungs, tears bursting from her eyes, watching her skin turn red.

kenzie snaps out of her painful memory and places her dishes in the sink. "i'm gonna be upstairs doing school. thanks for breakfast!" kenzie shouts jogging up the stairs.

walking into her room, she grabs her laptop and flops into her bed. another boring day, kenzie thought before starting her hours of school.

...

little did kenzie know, a new family was moving in next door. a family of four.

"johnny, come help me with this!" his younger sister lauren yelled from out the driveway. "hold up laur, i'm trying to carry my own stuff." he groaned and rolled his eyes.
