❝ kindergarten love. ❞
warning (kinda):
there's too much time skips because i'm basically reducing a whole story into around 1000 words, my apologies!mackenzie ziegler and john orlando were great friends during high school- no, actually not friends, they were a great couple. both liked each other endlessly, but like any other teenage relationship, it came to an end. they teared apart quickly, they couldn't keep a friendship.
when he turned twenty-two, his girlfriend got pregnant. he was excited about the baby, because he loved her and and wanted to spend the rest of her life with her, but the woman wasn't as happy.
once she gave birth to the babygirl, just a few days later, she said she would go for more orange juice, but never came back. he had to raise the baby himself.
four years later, his daughter, sarah, would start kindergarten, and she was not happy about it. "daddy! please, please, please! don't take me there! i want to stay here!" the blonde little girl whined, tears filling her eyes.
"you will have so many friends, and you will learn too many things, and eventually love it, i promise," he picked her up, grabbing his keys and leaving the house. he knew she wouldn't love it, she wouldn't love school, but she had to let go.
she had her dora the explorer little backpack on her back and a pink lunch bag in her hand. two pigtails had her hair in order and a flower-print dress covered her body, down to below her knees. "b-but i prefer you. you're the best daddy ever!"
"i know, but that won't make you skip classes, sarah," he locked the door and opened the car. john shoved her in the middle seat at the back and puts the seat-belt on. he climbs on the driver's seat and turns on the lock for children.
•••
tears and sobs, the four year old was a crying mess, hugging tightly the neck of his dad who was down on his knees. "sarah, it's time to go in there. i'm coming for you in a few hours, and i promise buying pizza."
"no!" she cried, hugging his neck even more tight, almost leaving him breathless.
"sweetie," a female voice sounded a few feet up from them. "i have this one toy inside that you'll love to meet... it's a dora."
her grip around his neck loosened, going straight to the hand of the woman. he stared at her little girl crossing the entrance, and once she was out of his sight, he stood up and left, trying not to walk back for her and take her home.
•••
"how was your first day, sweetheart?" the green-eyed asked the little girl in the backseats, smiling.
"it was great! you can't imagine how amazing my teacher is, she is so cool!" sarah smiles widely, it was much better than she expected it would be.
"cooler than me?" he frowned, trying to picture the woman taking her into class, but he never saw her, he just listened to her voice.
"sorry, but yeah, cooler," she nods.
two months later
the father walked to the class, seeing how other kids were being picked up as well. his little girl was smiling and talking to a brunette woman he figured out was her teacher due to her dressing. "daddy!" she exclaimed. he smiled, and his eyes travelled up to the woman, she was happy. her bright face seemed a little... familiar, but he shook it off. "she's my teacher."
both shook hands. "i'm miss ziegler," she introduced herself.
"john orlando," he spoke, but then, confused frowns formed on their faces. "ziegler? mackenzie ziegler?"
"john!" the brunette exclaims, pulling him into a hug. "how are you? how is life?"
"well, i'm a dad as you see. and you?" he smirked, knowing he had recognized her, but never thought she would be his kenzo.
"well, i'm a teacher as you see," she smirked back, but even though her face looked like she hasn't been happier, she was upset.
one month later
by this time, he had explained everything, the first week they met, actually. how he fell in love with a woman, how she got pregnant, how she left, and how he became a single father. for her, it was a sad story, but she couldn't be happier.
"i should get going, it's weird, my student is in her room," the brunette grabbed her handbag. they were sitting in the living room, during their fourth date- well, they call it hang-out, instead.
"it's okay, she's in her room, anyways. want anything? maybe a drink? just ask," he offered for the thousandth time in a couple hours, but nothing he offers is what she wants. what she craved was right there, letting words exit them. she didn't just want his lips, she needed them.
after all, she's in her room she thought. "uh- i..." she interrupted herself by placing her lips on his, in a quick peck that barely even made him realise she had pecked him. "now i really have to leave because if i stay, everything will be awkward," mackenzie stood up and walked to the door.
as soon as she was about to step out, she gets pulled back in and the door slams closed. a pair of lips were pressed against hers, in a short lip-lock, he backed off just a couple inches to see her face, the smirk on her face seemed contagious.
both leant again, creating an appropriate kiss, a meaningful one. it had been around ten years since their lips last met, and they didn't know how much they craved it throughout the years until it happened.
four months later
his arms were wrapped around her body, pressed against her back. "hurry sarah!" john grinned, hearing chuckles and no 's coming out of mackenzie's mouth. sarah quickly climbed the chair and smashed one of the cupcakes they just decorated with frosting on her face, moving it all over her face to cause a bigger mess.
john released of his grip around her waist, letting out a laugh. "i hate you, orlando!" she exclaimed with a smile all over her face.
"i doubt that," his teeth bit down his lower lip, smiling. she wiped the frosting off her eyes, but she still had a few on her nose and mouth. her body turned to the little girl, mouthing a give me one before looking back.
"hm, yeah? you aren't even hot, stop doing that with your lip," she pointed with her finger at his lips.
"it drives you crazy," he smiled, looking straight into her eyes, and gave one step closer. "but maybe i could do something else with them," he got closer, their faces almost about to touch. that was the moment when sarah shoved a cupcake in mackenzie's hand and she quickly smashed it on his face. "what the-"
"revenge!" she celebrates, giving sarah a high-five.
"you little girl," john playfully glared at his daughter, causing a chuckle to escape her lips.
"i'll go wash this off," as kenzie exited the kitchen, sarah pulled her dad close.
"make her my mommy and give me a sibling."
