"everything, everything "

mackenzie ziegler. she hadn't never been out of her house. at least for as long as she could remember. she hadn't seen anything except the house next door, that she saw through her window.

you see, mackenzie was sick. she couldn't leave the house. she wasn't allowed to. heaven knows what would happen to her if she did.

she hasn't seen anyone, except of course for her mom, and housekeeper slash best friend, nadia. her dad and sister passed away in a car crash when mackenzie was quite young. her mother was very shaken after the accident, but she seems to have gotten over it.

currently, mackenzie was laying on her bed, watching her favourite movie, tangled. she could sort of relate to rapunzel. she was locked in her own tower. she wanted to see the world. she wanted to experience love. well, not really, she didn't. but she loved watching movies, and reading about it.

mackenzie heard a honk coming from outside. she paused the movie, and walked over to her window. she peered out, and saw a truck. followed by a car. the car stopped right in front of the house, and out stepped a woman, man, and two children. a girl, and a boy. the boy seemed to be around her age, maybe one or two years older, but the girl was way older than mackenzie.

as mackenzie continued to spy on the children, she saw the boy jump onto the wall near his house, and pull himself onto the roof. she heard the mother's cries of telling him not to, and she saw the father glare at the boy. but he continued to do so. finally he was safely on his roof, and that was when he turned and made eye contact with mackenzie. he gave her a small smile , but she immediately drew her curtains.

nadia walked into mackenzie's room, and saw her breathing heavily. "mackenzie! what are you doing there. are you sick?" she asked, obviously worried.

mackenzie shook her head, and explained what just happened. "oh...the new neighbours. they seem nice. but remember mackenzie. no going outside." nadia reminded her, just like she had been doing so for the past god knows how many years of mackenzie's life.

"yeah, i know." mackenzie sighed. she couldn't help but wonder what the world outside was like. why did she have to be sick? it wasn't fair.

"well, i have to finish baking the brownies for your mother tonight, so i'll be in the kitchen if you need anything." nadia smiled at kenzie, before walking out.

mackenzie went back to her window, and as she watched the packers and movers come in and out of the house, she realised the boy was at his window. watching her. he smiled at her again, and this time mackenzie returned it, with a shaky wave.

"hold on." the boy mouthed. mackenzie gave him a questioning look, but he turned around and disappeared. about a minute later, he returned with a big book of some sorts. what was that for? he grinned, and then wrote something on the book.

"hey!"

i stared for a moment, before waving.

i gave him a sign to wait, and then got my own book. on a sheet, i wrote, "what's your name?"

he replied, "johnny. you?"

"i'm kenzie."

"can you come outside so we can talk?"
