They handcuffed us again, before they would talk us out of the cell. Like that would stop us if we were still strigoi, I thought to myself yet again. And so they carted us off into the sunlight, it had its perks, them sorting shit now. 1. It's sunlight, strigoi can't be out in the sun, further proving we'd returned to our dhampir state. 2. This was the night time for students. They are all in bed, well they should be all in bed asleep right now. I must admit, it's nice feeling the sun on my skin again. I had missed it. It's warmth wrapped around me, warming every bit of skin it touched. Dimitri and I stayed as close to each other as we could, well till they dragged us apart. They sat us in seats, then they pulled out a stake. Instinctively I flinched. They would do no harm to me now, but only as of yesterday they did do me harm, I can still feel the pain from Lissa shoving one into my chest.
Silver stakes are seriously harmful to strigoi, the mere brush against the skin causes great pain and discomfort. The guardians made their way over to us. Two guardians, two stakes. We had two guardians positioned behind each of us as well. Backup I assume. Then they pressed the points of the stakes against the tops of our arms, and dragged them down. The only discomfort occurring from the stakes slicing through our skin, leaving a long bloodied line down our arms. After that they left us sitting in the sun for a while, before they then walked us to the Chapel. They made us sit in there for a while too, then they seemed satisfied that we weren't strigoi anymore. Thankfully.
Then it was back to our cell. This time they tried to separate us, but we kicked up a big fuss. In the end they let us return to our cell together, I think it was easier than dealing with the hassle we were becoming. After that they just left us. For ages. They fed us food at one point. It wasn't great quality food, but it was nice to eat food again. The hours just ticked by, then I heard a commotion at the entrance. "Why won't you let me see them?" Lissa by the sounds of it. "There are strictly no visitors at this current time." "But I haven't seen them since they got back! I want to make sure they're okay." I could hear the anger in her tone. "I'm not leaving till you let me see them! I want to see my best friend, let me past." At the end her tone of voice changed, and I knew it anywhere.
Then she was strolling down the hall. Yup, compulsion. I was curled up in Dimitri's lap, with my head against his chest when she walked up, I didn't even look up at her arrival. "Rose? H-how are you feeling?" I just sat there motionless, I still hadn't spoken since seeing the doctor yesterday. "Rose. Please, please look at me. And... Respond." I could hear the sadness in her voice. But still I didn't make any effort. I didn't want to see her, or talk to her. I didn't want to see or talk to anyone. "Rose! Look at me goddamit. I had to do it okay! I couldn't leave you like that. I know you never wanted that. It wasn't you!" I'm pretty sure she was now crying.
She stood there for a while, pleading at the door. Finally she'd had enough, just when I thought she'd leave, she called a guard... "Unlock the door so I can go in there." She was using compulsion again. She was gonna get in shit tones of trouble. "Take a hint. She doesn't want to see you. She doesn't want to talk. Neither of us do. We just want to be left alone." Dimitri's voice was hoarse from lack of talking, but it got the point across. At that point I did look up. I could see the hurt in her eyes. All she wanted was her friend back, but I wasn't her anymore. I'm not Rose Hathaway. I'm only half of what she once was. The rest of me lost, lost after being the monster I once was. I was never going to get that back.
After that she gave up. She left in hysterically tears. I felt a little bad, but not bad enough to get her back here. More hours went by. Well I guess this is our life now, just sitting here. Locked up in a cell. I guess they're still deciding what to do with us. I'm not sure how much time went past, but eventually my mother came back. Like Lissa she demanded my attention, but again I would not give it. She too eventually left admitting defeat. The thing about these cells, there's no windows. No sunlight. Nothing. So any sense of time is quickly lost. Eventually we got tired, so we again tried that thing called sleep.

VampireSo I love the Vampire Academy books, they are so great. This story is based around the books, but with a twist. So Dimitri is Rose's forbidden teacher lover, everything else would mostly play out the same: group of friends, Lissa & Christian, Mason...
