"Allright. So you think your sex scenes suck. Any idea why?"
That was pretty straightforward. I set up and cross my legs together, getting comfy in the conversation.
"Well... I mean they just sound so robotic and fake and... there is and any love in them."
" that's a major problem. Why not just cut sex scenes out completely from your stories then?"
That was an interesting point, but I didn't want to go that route. Sure, sex wasn't mandatory in romance, but it was another method of expressing love and was greatly under appreciated. It was the physical connection between two people and I wanted to describe it as beautiful as it was. Call me a hopeless and perverted romantic, but I loved sex scenes in romance; not because they were hot, but because they had meaning. When they weren't one-night stands a random bouts of perversion, having sex was delicate and was a heated affirmation of love and passion between two people.
"I don't want to cut them out. I want to make them better and more realistic."
"Well then, how about this: take a week or two for yourself and research it. You've always been good at studying topics and sex is definitely a topic people have done research on."
I stared at my bedsheets, unbelieving what I was hearing. Did Lee really suggest taking a vacation to learn about sex, I shook my head. That was a first. Besides, something in my gut told me that I wouldn't get much from just reading research papers.
"I don't think just researching it is going to help..."
"Well, What do you want to do? I'm all ears."
I pause for a moment, thinking. Despite the research not being a good idea, the vacation seemed like a good one. Maybe I need a change of space to circulate in your thoughts. Many writers had places designated for writing and often change them up with each book they wrote. Some even had beach houses or cabins to get away from the world and focus on the writing. But where would I go about getting the means for a private place to work? I lived in an apartment with a cat in the middle of a city.
"Well, I thought about finding like a cabin or something to have some private time and maybe focus on practicing sex scenes, but I don't have the means to rent one out."
"Do you want to rent a cabin and spend a week there? You know, focus on writing sex scenes?"
"Well yeah, But I just said I don't have the means to rent one-"
"I can take care of it. Don't worry about it. Are you sure that's what you want to do?"
"You're not gonna pay for it, are you?"
I didn't want him to pay for things especially for a cabin. Who know how much renting cabin could actually cost? Lee, however, chuckled.
"My uncle owns a large stretch of land and rent out cabins for people when they go, you know, camping and stuff. I don't think he'd mind giving me the keys to one for a week."
"Are you sure?"
"Anything I can do to help, Amelia."
I smiled. That was really nice of him. This was my chance to get away from the world and focus on my writing. I wouldn't have to worry about deadlines or booksignings; nothing. I could sit and practice writing until the week was up. This was perfect. I nodded to myself, despite being in a phone conversation.
"Okay. Yeah. That's what I want to do."
"Alright. I'll set up everything today and get the keys to your cabin for you tomorrow. Sounds good?"
"Yeah. Thanks, Lee."
"Absolutely. See ya tomorrow."
"Bye!"
