Sasha lit up her fingers and put it next to the tic.  Soon, the gasses from the flame had killed it, and it dropped right off Alex's fur.

"There."  She said triumphantly.  "That's you done.  Just don't tell any other animals or they'll all start wanting de-ticing."

Alex shook his body the way a dog did after it had a bath.  "Thank you.  That feels better much.  I will not tell any others."

Sasha only de-ticed the lion because;

A)  He had saved her life more than once, so she liked to repay him in small ways she could.

B)  She hated the thought of any other life organisms in the House of Fire apart from herself, Alex, and the occasional other Elementist.

She scratched him behind the ear affectionately.

"Someone coming."  Alex warned.

Seriously, lions do make excellent sentries.  Maybe people should start employing watch-lions opposed to watch-dogs.

Nah.  Not all lions would be as easy to domesticate as dogs.  Alex wasn't domesticated.  He was just, well, the way all animals were at Willow Forest.

The intruder knocked on the door.  Sasha opened it.  There, standing in the doorway, was Ethan, shuffling nervously.  Wow, it was unlike Ethan to be nervous.

Please, please, let it be something good.

"Sasha?"  He asked.

"What?"  She replied frantically.  "Has someone died?  A robot exploded?  Felix come to kill Olivia and everyone else while he's at it?"

Ethan laughed.  "Nah.  You've just been sent on another Penance quest.  Olivia wants you to cross the Sahara desert to find her great-aunt's hand-knitted tea cosy."

Sasha went pale.  "Seriously?"

He laughed again.  "Erm, no."  He switched the comedy off, and reverted to nervous mode.  "Hey, Sasha, you know the disco us guys at Tech are planning?"

She shrugged.  "Yep.  Who doesn't?  I was at that Councillor meeting, when you first suggested it."
