Chapter 2

Rosé's POV

Monday - December 17, 2017

I waited outside an office at town hall for my dad. I had nothing to do so I stared lifelessly at the bulletin board outside the door. I skimmed through the papers not really caring about the content until I reached a certain one. I focused on the paper and read through it: Looking for a babysitter for my 12-year-old girl. Babysitting will take place weekdays after school from 3 to 6 (times and dates may vary/change). Pays $13 an hour. Call 201-$$$-$$$$ if you are interested. I immediately pulled out my phone and dialed the number on the paper.

"Hello?" I heard a female's voice on the other end.

"Hi, my name is Park Roseanne or Rosé for short and I was calling about your babysitting offer. I'm at city hall and I happened to see your flyer on the bulletin board. Is the spot by any chance still open?"

"Oh yes, the spot is still open. My name is Kim Nari and I would love it if we could meet in person just so I could see if you are fit for the job."

"Yes, of course. When would be easiest for you?"

"I had off from work today so I have a bit of free time around four. You can stop by my house and we can discuss."

"Okay, what's the address?"

"210 Westbrook Avenue."

"Okay, great. I'll see you at four then."

I hung up and silently celebrated the fact that I got a job. Well, I technically didn't get it yet. But I would like to think that babysitting my younger brother since I was twelve would be enough to get me the job.

"Hi, honey. Sorry, I took so long. You weren't too bored, right?" My dad asked once he exited the office.

"Actually, while you were in that meeting, I got myself a job interview," I explained as we began to walk outside to his car.

"Really? That's great. What is it for?"

"Well, it's not a full-time job. Just something to do to earn extra money while I still search for a full-time job. But, I saw this flyer for a babysitting job."

"Oh, I'm sure you'll get it. You've been babysitting Roman for years."

"That's what I was thinking." I'm just praying that it's enough.

----------

"Nice to meet you, Ms. Kim." I greeted as we sat down at the kitchen table.

"Likewise, Rosé. As I said on the phone, I would like to see if you are fit for the job. So, have you had any experience in babysitting?"

"Yes, my brother is four years younger than me. So my parents tend to leave me in charge of him when they are busy. I've been looking after him for years. I've also occasionally watched over my neighbor's eleven-year-old boy and their dog."

"Do you have any recommendations from anyone?"

"This might not say much since he is my father, but he wrote down what he thought about me being a babysitter. He is a police officer in town. And, like I just mentioned, I've looked after my neighbor's son before." I handed her the papers that my neighbor and father had written out. She quickly looked through them before speaking.
