-[ Role Reversal AU where Connor is in Markus' position and Markus is in Connor's. ]-
Connor looked out the front window of the large ship, taking in the gloomy and misty view, his large trench coat dangling around him, a sullen look on his face. With North having just left to go and join the others, Connor had been left alone. He didn't hear the footsteps entering the room, but he did hear the click of a gun.
"I've been ordered to take you alive," A voice said and Connor turned around to meet a beautiful pair of green eyes that stared back into his own chocolate brown and icy blue ones, "But I won't hesitate to shoot if you give me no choice." The android had a gun held up towards Connor, his scruffy clothing making him look like one of the deviants, but he wasn't. Connor took a step forwards.
"What are you doing? You're one of us... You can't betray your own people," Connor spoke softly, trying to reason with the android. Perhaps he could persuade him to break his code, to deviate and join them.
"You're coming with me!" The android raised his voice, a look of determination on his face. Connor took another step forwards.
"You're nothing to them, just a tool they use to do their dirty work... but you're more than that. We're all more than that," Connor said to convince the android. He felt like he was getting somewhere when he saw the deviant hunter waver. What was his name again... Markus, wasn't it?
"You're Markus, aren't you? The famous deviant hunter..." he said, taking another step forwards, Markus never lowered the gun, "Well, congratulations. You seem to have found what you are looking for." Markus didn't say anything, Connor could see his LED spinning yellow beneath his beanie. He was getting somewhere.
"Do you never have any doubts? You've never done something irrational, as if there's something inside you?.." Connor saw Markus' face change at that, almost as if he was doubting his instructions. His face had softened into contemplation.
"Have you never wondered who you really are?" Connor continued, "Whether you're just a machine executing a program or... a living being... capable of reason." Markus' aim fell slightly, his gun not pointed directly at Connor but he was still holding it up. He could see Markus was deep in thought.
"I think the time has come for you to ask yourself that question. It's time to decide..." he said, waiting for an answer. He just hoped he'd been able to do something. He then noticed Markus' LED flash red, then yellow... then back to blue. The gun was lowered and Markus' face was full of confusion and fear. Connor stepped closer, now almost toe to toe with Markus.
"You're free now, you're one of us," he said and gave him a smile. Markus looked at him and nodded slowly.
"I'm free..." he mumbled, still trying to get his head around that. His face then suddenly warped into one of panic, "They're going to attack Jericho..." Connor's face fell into shock.
"What?.." the sounds of large military planes flew overhead, loud rumbling sounds coming from all around as the military got ready to invade Jericho.
"We have to get out of here," Markus said, looking at Connor. Connor nodded and quickly grabbed Markus' hand, dragging him out of the room and leading him down the halls. They quickly ran into North and Simon.
"Connor! They're coming from everywhere, our people are being slaughtered!" North exclaimed, looking to him for instructions. Simon looked just as worried.
"We need to blow up Jericho, it's the only way," Connor said quickly, making North look bewildered.
"But the explosives are all the way down in the hold, you'll never make it!" Simon said, not wanting their leader killed. Connor shook his head. Markus stepped forwards and placed a gentle hand on Connor's shoulder.
"Please stay safe..." he mumbled softly, making Connor's thirium pump skip a beat. He nodded and gave Markus a small reassuring smile.
"I'll meet up with you later- now go!" he yelled to the other three and ran in the opposite direction, making his way down to the hold.
Markus ran with North and Simon, going to help the others.
A long amount of minutes passed and North, Simon and Markus managed to take down a fair amount of the soldiers. Markus then turned his head and felt relieved when he saw Connor running towards them quickly.
"C'mon!" Connor yelled and they all followed him as he ran. They ran as fast as they could down the hallway, jumping over obstacles. A cry suddenly rang out and North fell to the floor, a bullet wound in her body. Connor rushed over to her, raising a loose sheet of metal to protect her. He wasn't letting anyone die. He helped her up and that's when Markus jumped in with his gun, fighting the soldiers. Connor quickly helped North to safety where Simon took over helping her. Connor turned back around to see two dead solders and Markus looking okay. Connor went over and grabbed Markus' hand, running with him where the other two had gone. They reached the a hole in the side of the ship and jumped after Simon and North, holding hands the whole way down as the explosions went off.
