Summer has come and passed

The innocent can never last

wake me up when September ends

like my father's come to pass

seven years has gone so fast

wake me up when September ends

here comes the rain again

falling from the stars

drenched in my pain again

becoming who we are

as my memory rests

but never forgets what I lost

wake me up when September ends

~September~

The summer had been the best of my life, I don’t think I could remember a time when I had been so content with life. I could feel the warm sand in between my toes as I walked along the beach. The sun was surprisingly hot for an early September night as it started its decent into the horizon. My hand was clasped in Dan’s, we’d spent the whole summer together minus one or two days. I still hated the rare time that we spent apart and I didn’t know how I would cope when the band announced its tours for later in the year. Luckily I had taken a gap year before I started university next year. I felt like a part of the You Me At Six family now, I regularly met up with Jem and Alexa and I was accepted by their other friends. Today was my last day to enjoy the freedom the summer had brought, I started work in a boutique in Surrey tomorrow morning. Luckily the boutique had shortages in staff so my pay wouldn’t be too bad also it was only two miles away from Dan’s apartment which I pretty much lived in.

“Oh I meant to tell you I applied for some universities,” I said breaking the silence as we strolled along the edge of the sea. “Which ones?” he asked as the tide came closer and water pooled around our ankles. “Leeds, Surrey and LIPA,” I listed the three that I had chosen as best for a performing art degree. “Cool, Leeds and Liverpool are so far away though,” he frowned holding my hand tighter. “They’re the best for the arts so I can’t really help how far away they are and I hate to say it but Surrey’s my fall back,” I told him, I was terrified what the future held for Dan and I. I wasn’t sure if I could do a long distance relationship especially when there were girls out there who were completely besotted with my boyfriend. “I understand,” was all he said.

“What we gonna do Dan?” I sighed frustrated, I never let myself think of future but it was so hard not to right now. I rested my head on his chest as we came to a halt, the soft waves lapped at our feet, I could feel tears pool in my eyes. “I don’t know baby,” he let out as an exasperated sight, “I think about our future all the time, I don’t know how we’ll manage, but we’ll find a way,” he promised. I looked up into his eyes, he ran a hand through his hair in frustration as he returned my gaze. “I can’t live without you,” I whispered and kissed his sweet lips. “I can’t live without you either,” He smiled sadly before retuning my kiss passionately.

“Never leave me,” he begged as I kissed his warm neck and inhaled his delicious scent. “I won’t,” I promised before sucking on his collarbone making his moan quietly. “Wait till I get you home,” he chuckled as I pulled away and we continued to walk along the damp sand. “I’m excited already,” I giggled already, being with him gave me a newfound confidence. I liked how our worries were pushed to the back of our minds quickly, I didn’t want to ruin the quality time together we had left.
