Reader's Quirk: Shadow Being (the ability to manipulate darkness and see in the dark)
Something felt...off.
For the past week, you'd felt as if someone was watching you, observing and calculating your every move, but when you turned around no one was there. Even when you peered into the surrounding shadows there wasn't a trace that anyone had been there, yet the prickling on the back of your neck refused to subside, warning bells going off in your head.
You weren't scared. Not at all. You were a pro hero and had fought all sorts of villains, but as the week continued and the feeling of being watched refused to leave, your concern grew. Who was watching you? What did they want?
Briefly, you thought of telling Katsuki, but your husband had the tendency to...explode in literal terms. Confiding in him would probably only cause more trouble, and so, you decided to take care of...whatever it was, on your own.
It was supposed to have been an easy routine patrol, maybe the occasional amateur villain or delinquent to take care of, but nothing more than that.
So why was a pit of foreboding forming in your stomach?
The warning bells that had been going off in your head all week had changed tone, from a dull buzz to a full clamor and the baby hairs on the back of your neck stood on end.
Something was very, very wrong.
You and Katsuki had handled hundreds of patrols without a problem, so what made this one any different? What made this one different was that after a week of feeling like you were being watched, the sensation had simply...disappeared. You should've been able to breathe easier, allow the tension to leave your coiled muscles, but, if anything, your body only tensed further, mind alert for any possible threats nearby. Every alleyway seemed suspicious, villainous intent lurking in their shadowy depths.
Of course, Katsuki had noticed your strange behavior. You'd felt his burning gaze on you all day as you shot side-glances at passersby and jumped at every unexpected noise. He finally took the chance to confront you about it when the two of you were alone on patrol, the rest of the city asleep as he stopped you beneath a flickering streetlight and demanded you tell him what as wrong.
"Nothings wrong, Katsuki. I've just been feeling a little off lately," you'd replied, not looking him in the eye.
"Bullshit, you've been jumpy and tense all week. What the hell is going on that you can't tell me?" Tilting you chin up, he forced you to look at him. Anger and hurt swirled in his crimson eyes, a silent plea for you to tell him what was wrong so he could fix it.
Why couldn't you tell him? You told yourself it was because he didn't need to become involved in situation that had escalated from a simple prickle on the back of your neck, but, deep down, you knew it was because you wanted to handle the situation yourself. Katsuki was stronger than you and would gladly destroy anything or anyone that bothered you, but for some reason you wanted to handle this yourself.
Was that selfish of you though?
Reaching up, you entwined your hand with his that was still holding your chin, taking a moment to just look at his larger hand holding yours while you contemplated this.
