A/N: After writing "Burn" I got the idea to make this as a prequel. Believe me when I say I do not hate Dabi at all, I'm just a slave to the plot. I do not own My Hero Academia or the song "Say No To This" from Hamilton. Enjoy!
Warning: Implied sexual stuff because it's "Say No To This." Listen to the song and you'll understand. To that end, Toga is aged up.
Bowing his head, Dabi massaged the tense muscles in his neck and shoulders, looking for some sort of relief from the relentless throbbing. It had been about a week since he'd last slept and he could feel himself becoming weaker, the fire of his quirk losing a great deal of its merciless ferocity.
Sitting in the underground bar that was the League of Villains headquarters, he tried to think of a solution to the mess he'd gotten himself into, trying to ignore the rank smell in the air. Summer was upon the city and, as the bar was pretty dilapidated, the heat had worsened a collection of undesirable smells, mold and decay mixing to create a rancid scent unlike any other.
Dabi chuckled and swished the ice around the glass in his hand, watching as the frozen water sparkled in the dim light. This scent was the smell of evil, fitting for a place such as this.
Either that or it was the smell of trouble...
Looking around, Dabi was grateful that he was nearly alone in this hell hole. Kurogiri was cleaning glasses behind the bar, Shigaraki was playing a video game in the corner, eerie red eyes peering out from the fingers of the hand he wore on his face, and Himiko Toga was sitting a few seats away, polishing knives and humming way too cheerfully. As he glanced at her, she peeked up at him from beneath her lashes and winked, tongue darting out to lick the corner of her lip. Scoffing, Dabi turned away from her before she could send him any more flirtatious hints, nose wrinkling slightly in disgust.
As he looked down into his drink once more, his mind traveled to you, the last person he would've expected to fall in love with. A hero, you walked in the light, saving people and spreading joy and safety, the exact opposite of what Dabi did. In fact, now that he thought about it he was sure that the only person he'd ever made smile, truly smile, was you, and he would cherish the memory of that smile for as long as he lived.
Dabi remembered how it was raining the night he met you, the water mixing with the blood that flowed freely from a deep gash in his stomach. He'd been walking down the street, up to no particular trouble, when a hero with a nasty stealth quirk had slashed him open before he could so much as raise a hand to defend himself. Dragging himself into a nearby alley, Dabi waited for the hero to find him, to finish him off, but no such attack came, and his suffering grew as the life bled out of him.
Looking up at the night sky, the stars obscured by clouds, Dabi was sure he was going to die that night, and, as the rain began to fall, cold seeping into his bones and plastering his hair to his head, he cursed everything that had brought him to that moment. His garbage father, his fragile, troubled mother, that bastard Shigaraki: Dabi cursed them all. He'd done so many horrible things, sacrificed so much, in order to work towards his goal, in order to make trouble for this twisted society centered around heroes, and this was how it was going to end? With him dying in a dirty alley with no one and nothing?
Dabi bit his bottom lip, a few tears escaping his eyes despite his best efforts to hold them back. His wound hurt like hell, but the pain in his heart dwarfed it. He didn't want to die. Not like this, maybe not at all, but he was too weak to move and where would he go even if he did have the strength to get up and find help?
