A/N: This was another request from someone on DeviantArt. Can we all agree that Amajiki Tamaki deserves all the love in the world? How is it possible for someone to be so adorable?>w< I do not own My Hero Academia, any of its characters, or the picture.
Tamaki pressed his forehead into the wall, relishing as the cold material soothed his burning skin. His mind was a tangled mess of thoughts and emotions, too much for the shy man to handle. Why did you have to be so incredibly wonderful? So beautiful? His legs folded beneath him, slumping to his knees even as he continued to press his forehead to the wall.
How was it possible for someone as bright as you to notice someone like him?
You were like sunlight after a week of rain, a relief and joy. Every time Tamaki saw you, his heart would pound, an orchestra of emotions raging its cruel symphony through his body. All he wanted to do was bask in your presence, hold you close, press his lips to yours and whisper sweet sentiments in your ear. But how was he supposed to do that when, after all the years you'd known each other, he could still only barely hold a conversation with you? You were way out of his league, so why oh why did you even bother with him?
It was torture, these emotions. Pure, heart-wrenching torture.
Tamaki wanted nothing more than to disappear into the wall and escape from these strange feelings...but that would mean escaping from you too and...despite everything...
"Tamaki!" Your lovely face appeared in his mind, a memory of when you had grabbed his hand and pulled him along to a takoyaki booth at a summer festival. He remembered how the hanging lanterns had made you appear heavenly in their low glow, and how all he'd been able to manage was to hold your hand back and turn his bright, blushing face away from you.
Picking himself up, Tamaki leaned against the wall for a moment more before trudging back to the cafeteria.
He would much rather endure this torture than be away from you.
Letting out a long sigh, Tamaki tried to think of how he would explain his sudden disappearance. His stomach rumbled, unhappy with him for leaving immediately after class to clear his head instead of eating. He groaned in preparation for the scolding he was sure to get from you, Mirio, and Nejire for wandering off and not properly taking care of himself.
Unnoticed, Tamaki made his way to the table the four of you usually sat at... and stopped in his tracks at the sight before him. Normally, Nejire and Mirio would sit on one side while you and him would sit on the other, but apparently his absence had changed that arrangement. Mirio was sitting next to you, arm around your shoulders as he conversed with you animatedly.
Tamaki couldn't hear what you were talking about, couldn't hear anything for that matter, the blood was rushing in his ears so quickly. A new, unfamiliar emotion bloomed in his chest and he gripped the area above his heart as it began to ache.
What was this feeling?
He wanted Mirio to get the hell away from you, to stop touching you so much. His hands gripped into fists as he fought the instinctual urge to forcibly remove the other man who was moving closer and closer to you as he talked. Blood boiling, he thought of how easy it would be to tear you away from Mirio if he really wanted to, but before he could act on that urge, a wave of shame overcame him.
This was Mirio he was directing his hostility toward. The greatest friend he had ever had and the person who was friendly to absolutely everyone. Mirio's arm over your shoulder didn't necessarily mean romance! And what right did he have to act possessive over you in the first place? You weren't his...you probably never would be, no matter how much it hurt him.
Turning away quickly, Tamaki strode back out of the cafeteria, head down to keep anyone from seeing the tears that had gathered in his eyes. Finally finding a deserted hallway, Tamaki collapsed against the wall, pressing his palms into his eyes as the tears flowed freely down his face.
He hated feeling this way. Hated it! He hated the constant ache in his chest, he hated being jealous of his best friend, and, more than anything, he hated not being good enough for you. He could pine after you all he wanted, but it would never change the fact that you deserved so much more than him. Leaning back, Tamaki stared at the ceiling, a small sob escaping his lips.
"Tamaki?" He froze. What did the universe have against him? Standing a few feet away, radiating concern, was the unattainable object of his affections, you. Seeing the tears on his face as his tormented eyes met yours, you immediately rushed forward, dropping to your knees before him and gently cupping his face in your hands. Little did he know, your heart was breaking at the sight of him so hurt and upset.
"Tamaki, what's wrong? Are you hurt? Did someone say something to you? Tell me! What happened?" He couldn't take it anymore! Why were you so worried about him? Why did you care so much?
Why did he have to fall so deeply in love with you? Damn it all, he simply couldn't take it anymore!
"I'm what's wrong, (y/n). I'm so in love with you, and there's nothing I can do about it! I don't deserve you, but I still feel jealous when I see you with other guys and I can't help but want you even though I know I can't have you!" Your silence at his outburst made him want to curl up and disappear. Shutting his eyes tight, he prepared for the moment you would reject him and leave, breaking off all ties to him.
Instead, he felt a soft pressure on his lips, gone as soon as it came. Eyes shooting open, he stared at your warm, loving face in shock. Had you just...?
"Who said you weren't good enough for me, Tamaki? Because whoever it was I need to go destroy them for making you believe things that aren't true," you giggled, soft fingers wiping away his lingering tears. "Was that why you left the cafeteria without a word? Because you were jealous of Mirio? Oh, Tamaki, there's nothing for you to worry about! Mirio's only my friend! And believe me when I say your more than enough for me!" The affectionate smile you gave him almost convinced him. Almost.
"But (y/n) your so amazing and beautiful! You deserve someone who isn't shy and withdrawn like m-!" Your sudden embrace cut him off.
"Stop talking so badly about yourself, Tamaki. I love you so much! It hurts me to see you so upset, to hear you degrade yourself like this. Don't you see how wonderful you are? Don't you see everything I fell in love with?" He couldn't believe what he was hearing.
"You...you love me? You want to be with me?" He was almost afraid to ask.
"I love you, Tamaki. Of course I want to be with you!" You pulled away and pressed your forehead to his, your sparkling (e/c) eyes meeting his tenderly. He couldn't help the tears of relief and happiness that came next. There was still some lingering doubt, after thinking the worst for so long, but slowly, surely, you would show him what you saw in him, what you fell in love with.
Throwing his shyness to the wind, Tamaki leaned forward and kissed you tentatively. He felt you smile into the kiss before you reciprocated enthusiastically, wrapping your arms around his neck even as his gently came around your waist, pulling you into him.
He was never so happy as he was in that moment, his insecurity and jealousy disappearing in your warmth and love, your relationship reborn into something new, something beautiful, something enduring.
A/N: This was a lot of fun to write. Tamaki needs more love!XD Thank you for reading!
