Walking up to the building I could feel their despair. Lucas ran up to it and fell to his knees. There was a young girl just laying on the steps. Her eyes were closed like she was sleeping but... She was not. She was covered in her own blood and holding onto a burner phone. Even in death, she was gripping on to it like it was her last lifeline. Virgil just stood there staring at the building. He wasn't crying, He wasn't angry, sad, or anything. He was just frozen.
"Cara... Why?" I heard Lucas say as he picked her up into his lap. It was obvious he loved her. Even without my powers, you could tell. They must have been a couple before... before this all happened. "Why did this happen?"
"It's my fault." We all look over at Virgil, who hasn't moved an inch.
"What do you mean, it's your fault?" Lucas was still just holding the girl. "WHAT DO YOU MEAN A?"
"They came looking for..." Lucas put the girl down and jumped up, running over and punching Virgil in the face.
"They came here because they knew you were alive! They found out and NOW MY GIRLFRIENDS DEAD!"Virgil still didn't move. He was in shock. Lucas just went crazy. "How... HOW DID THEY EVEN FIND OUT? There was only three of us that knew the truth. ONLY THREE OF US!"
"Lucas I'm..."
"What You're sorry?! We gave you a home. We cared for you despite everything you did in your past. We forgave you and didn't judge you. We didn't judge you for who you were, who your father was, who your fucking boyfriend was no! Because that's stupid, we let you show us who you were. We even let you go out there and fight by our side."
"Lu...c-cus..." He punched Virgil again. I had to hold Patton back. Deceit did the same for Roman. Whatever we feel we can not interfere with this.
"WE TRUSTED YOU! I TRUSTED YOU! You said to not come home. You said we had to keep your friends safe. I stayed with you because you told me it would be fine. And when I called them and no one picked up... You told me not to worry. You are right this is your fault. Cara shouldn't have died." He walked away and went back over to his girlfriend. "You should've died in that fucking fire. Then none of this would have happened."
"ROT IN HELL YOU STUPID FUCK!" I looked over to see Roman literally going for his sword, that is until deceit took it and threw it far away from him. Roman just stared with hatred. He was pissed. We all were pissed. Non more so than Patton, I could feel the electricity coming off of him.
"Your right." Again we all stopped and stared at Virgil. He was refusing to cry but the broken smile he had was proof enough. He was practically dead inside. The ground beneath his feet began to smoke and melt underneath him. "Sarah would never have gotten kidnapped..." His feet caught on fire and I watched as it slowly climbed up it to his knees. "Cara would never have died..." The flames had reached his chest by now. His arms had even caught on fire. "Everyone would have been so much safer." His voice cracked and flamed grew bright... hotter as it finally covered him completely. The flames were so hot none of us could have even got close. I watched the horror in Lucas' eyes as he watched.
"A, I didn't mean... I was just hurt... I'm sorry."
"Don't apologize, you were right." I watched in horror as the flames began to actually burn him. I didn't think it was possible but Virgil's face and hands began to blacken. "I should've died that day. Then everything would have been fine.
"DON'T YOU DARE SAY THAT!" Roman got out of Deceit's grasp and ran up to Virgil. The flames were so hot I could feel them from 5ft away. Yet he stood there holding Virgil's hand like it was... Wait! Don't you dare say something like that."
"It's true..." Roman pulled Virgil's hand to his chest and I saw that where Roman was touching the flames had disappeared. It was like he had put the flames to sleep.
