"They're not picking up..." I looked up to see Lucas frantically pacing on the phone. "They always pick up. Why aren't they picking up?"
"Calm down, breathe..." I said as I held onto him, stopping him from pacing. His anxiety was starting to affect me. "Who isn't picking up?"
"Sarah, Cara, Mackey..." I let go and just stood there my thoughts in a daze. "No one is picking up. A something must have happened." My thoughts were already in overdrive thinking about all the possible reasons. Of course me being me, none of them were good reasons.
"D-don't jump to c-conclusions. I'm sure there is a r-reason f-for it." I was trying to comfort him but I think he saw through it. I was stuttering after all.
"A..." Lucas looked at me on the verge of tears. My inner Patton instantly screamed to protect the smol boy. Until I realized it was n't just my inner Patton... It was the real on too.
"Don't cry kiddo, I'm sure whatever it is isn't so bad."Patton pulled Lucas into a hug. He then stopped and looked back at me. "So why is he crying?" Sometimes, Patton, you are a ray of sunshine. Going to make someone feel better without even knowing what happened. You just care that much.
"No one at the refuge is answering the phone... It isn't a typical behavior for them."
"Oh well, I'm sure it's all right. They're probably all busy. Don't you worry about a thing." Except I have this sick feeling that...
Nothing is ok at all.
"Patton, why are you trying to suffocate the poor boy with your hugs?" I looked over to see Roman and Deceit behind me. I freaked out and Patton laughed. I held onto my chest as Roman just stared at me. "You ok, emo firework?" Seriously, what's with the nicknames?
"I'm fine... no thanks to you, my chemical bromance."
"What was that?" Romans eyes narrowed and Patton started to choke.
"I said I was fine."
"No not that... the name you called me." Shit... I've called him that before haven't I. Was it during one of the video's.
"Hey Kiddo why don't we go make some cookies?" Patton wrapped his arm around him in a protective and grounding stance. I nodded and he pulled me away. Roman just stayed staring at me, while Deceit's eyes began to widen.
"Virgil? Why don't we tell them?" I looked over at Dad who was putting some cookie dough onto a sheet.
"I'm scared." He looked at me with tears in his eyes. Why wouldn't I be scared? I was dead for 3 years. I once again made the decision to disappear. It's what I do best...
Running away.
"Logan and I spoke this morning." He turned back to the cookie sheet. It was nice just being here with him. He was always so kind and understanding. Even if I didn't deserve it. "He told me he spoke to you."
"Yeah, I couldn't sleep. I must have woken him up accidentally. I tried to apologize, he wouldn't hear it." Patton took the cookie sheet and put it in the oven, grabbing another and setting back to work. I grabbed some more stuff and started on dinner.
"He knows somethings up." I glance back at him but he's staring intently at the cookie dough. "He knows your alive and he... He's going to connect the dot. He is Logan after all. And Roman... He's see's the similarities."
"I..." Patton dropped some dough and let out a frustrated sigh. This was getting to him. He's to pure hearted to keep secrets and having to keep one from his family. The fact that he has is proof enough that he will do anything for his son's. I... I... "I'm sorry."
"Aw Kiddo, it's just a little cookie dough, no need to be sorry. Plus your old man is the one that dropped it."
"Roman said I would be able to find you here." Logan stood there staring at us from the doorway. He looked very tired, I must have kept him up longer than I thought I did. He looked over at Patton, as Deceit stepped out from behind him. "Do you have a moment to spare, hun?"
"Go on I'll finish the cookies." I said as Patton looked back at me.
"But your working on dinner." I mouthed go and Patton nodded, leaving with Logan. Deceit leaned on the doorway. His eyes glowing yellow in what I assumed was anger.
