— PLUMCARMEN MURDOCK NEVER FORGOT how much she loved road trips, so when Robin — her father — announced that they were moving to Riverdale, get off the radar and public eye for awhile and maybe for good, she was ecstatic. Away from all the combat life, away from all the danger, Robin Murdock made sure that her safety and her happiness came first while he worked his private military agency from Riverdale.
He'd never smiled genuinely before, that was a sight that he reserved for his daughter only. He seemed to do only just that whenever he was around her, even at public sight.
Robin had just passed the Riverdale sign, that they had arrived, when Carmen suddenly perked up with a mischievous grin. "Dad, can we go to — " She looked back at her phone, narrowing her eyes. " — uh, Pop's?"
He gave her a weird look, "And you would know that, how?"
"I did some research, of course," She smiled widely. This made him chuckle, shaking his head. So much like her mother. "Which is somewhat hard because Riverdale didn't even show up on most maps."
"Well, do you have directions then?" He gave her a side-glance, only to receive a sheepish shrug. Robin rolls his eyes, chuckling.
"We could ask around!" She suggested again, her eyes bright and so unlike the Carmen back in New York. "I mean, I did hear that people here are nice and welcoming!"
"Carmen," He says lightly, with a slight scolding look. "We can't be too sure about the people here, you know."
After a long while (they got lost twice on the way, much to Robin's chagrin), the two finally made it to the brightly lit diner. Carmen's face brightened up as she moved open her car door, only to jump in surprise when her father, once again, opened it for her. Always had been a gentleman, even when Carmen was a child, at whatever chance that Robin had, he would always open doors for Carmen. Maybe it was still an instinct from the military, but he believed that it was one of the good ones.
"I thought I told you I could open it on my own," She retorted, only to receive a smug grin.
"I know, but I couldn't help it," He shrugged, and put a strong hand on her back, guiding her into the diner. He had grasped the handle of the door before she could, making her huff in annoyance as he chuckles once more.
"Welcome!" The man at the counter greets them warmly as Carmen approached him, leaving her father to follow her. She returns the smile, eyes twinkling as she glanced around the diner in wonder.
"How do you think of Riverdale so far?"
"We just arrived tonight, but I think it's great," Carmen mused. "Despite getting lost on the road twice, but," She nods, smiling in relief. "We managed."
"I'm Pop Tate, anything you want? We have milkshakes, onion rings and burgers," The man smiled down at her.
"I'm Carmen, my dad, Robin," She juts a thumb out in the direction of her father, who forced a smile in acknowledgement as he straightens up from behind her and moved so he was just beside her.
"Chocolate milkshake and your best burger, please," Carmen says politely, before turning to Robin. "What about you, dad?"
