CANDY

ROBIN MURDOCK LAY BESIDE Carmen on her bed, his hands pressed together on his abdomen. "You could still skip today, you know."

"I'm not missing any more school days than I have to, dad," Carmen regarded her father with a soft smile. "It's still a few more years but I promise you we'll move back home and I'll graduate from UC Berkeley, make you proud."

He returned it, eyes shining with pride and brought her close, kissed her forehead. "You make me proud everyday, baby doll."

The Murdock teenager grinned, "And I plan to make you prouder by the days. I love you, daddy."

"As I love you, sweetheart," Her hair felt soft between his fingers, just like her mother's. He closes his eyes, relishing in the memory. "You know I'll always look after you, worry about you, and all,"

"I'm not a little girl anymore," Carmen chuckled.

Robin rolls his eyes with a fond smile. "When I look at you, the only thing I see is my sweet little girl. I find that when you're a father, no matter that that girl is thirty years old — she'll always be your little girl."

"Woah, don't go soft on me, old man," The female brunette joked, laughter bubbling up from her lips.

"What, me? Never, princess. We should go now before you're late."

"You don't have to drive and drop me off, dad." Carmen protested as she followed him out into the hallway, down the stairs and into the kitchen. "You could just rest."

Robin turns around with a serious look, "Of course I do. I'm your father, it's in my job description to do it."

"Is that, really? You never minded back then," She jests, smirking.

"That," He shows a thoughtful expression, even going as far as to exaggerate his actions by looking up to the ceiling, then back down to her face. "And I still do not trust that Lodge girl around you. I know it is an old saying, but I won't take the chance that apples won't fall far from its trees."

"You can't just assume it's true, dad."

"Of course I can," He scoffs. "I mean, I'm looking at you, aren't I?" He smirked, since all he sees when he looks at her was a carbon copy of him. "Until she proves that I can trust her, I'll be driving you in the mornings."

"You have a business to run, what about your meetings?" Robin paused, then narrowed his eyes at the triumphant girl while pointing a loaf of bread in her direction.

"You're not going to school without a car or a ride from someone you know — or that we both know I can trust."

"Does this mean I can walk home?," Carmen says innocently, inwardly smirking.

Oh dear god, Robin looked up indignantly, as if praying for patience. "You keep that gun in your pants or in your bag, and that knife in your shoes, hear me?"

"Deal," She responds instantly, grinning. "Even if my... knife skills are mediocre and my aims are — well, as good as a beginner can get." Robin hadn't wanted to involve her with weapons at all, only opting to teach her all he knew about hand to hand because he wanted her to learn how to use her body and anything around her as a weapon.
