A bullet shoots through the room from the hallway as I push Adam and Carlos behind a bookshelf. A man walks into the room with a gun pointing at me.
"So I'm assuming you came here to capture me, so you can fail again?" I ask, knowing how this all works.
"No, this time we won't fail." He growls.
Yes you will. You suck!
"Are you sure about that?"
"Yes."
"Yeah, well I'm not so sure about that." I say and kick his feet out from under him. I kick his stomach and snatch his gun.
"Are you still sure?" I ask, pointing the gun at him.
"We will get you."
"They might. You definitely won't." I put my finger on the trigger and pull it.
I look back at Adam and Carlos. Carlos's mouth is hanging open and Adam is standing there, emotionless. Did I just give Carlos post traumatic stress?
"You just killed that guy." Carlos says shakily.
"Yes. Very good observation." I smile.
Carlos falls to the floor, eyes closed and body limb. Maybe I did traumatize him. Whoops.
"Is he dead?" Adam asks.
"Maybe unconscious." I shrug. "But he can be dead." I say and press the gun against his head. That's when he jumps up and runs to the other side of the room. "No, he was just being the dramatic little idiot that he is." I tell Adam, rolling my eyes.
"Please don't kill me!" Carlos pleads terrified. "Please! I won't tell anyone." He shakes his head. That's what they all say. "Please Sadie, please."
I roll my eyes as I look into his blue eyes that hold terror. He's scared. Horrified. I like that.
"Fine, not yet." I decide, thinking it will be fun to torment him for the next few hours or days.
I walk over to him and grab his sleeve, pulling him up to his feet.
"We have to go." I say to Adam.
"What about him? What are we doing with him?" He asks.
"I think I'll just kill him, soon. Not today." I look at Carlos, seeing the calmer but still tense face. "Let's go." I walk with them out of school and we get in Adams car before driving off in silence.
We eventually get to the gang house and go in.
"Whoa!" Carlos gasps, impressed with my home. "What is this place?"
"My gang house." I tell him, walking to my office. Adam walks somewhere else and Carlos follows me. What is he, a dog? "Why are you following me?" I ask.
"Because you're the only one I know." He says. I shut the door and sit in the chair.
"You don't know me." I shake my head.
"Well you're the only one I trust."
"That's weird." I look through my computer.
"Why?"
"You shouldn't trust me. No one that's me. No one should ever trust me."
He walks around my desk and squeezes himself into my chair. The same one I'm sitting in right now. Why.
"What are you doing?" I mutter.
"Sitting next to you."
More like sitting on me.
Why?"
"Because I want to." I roll my eyes and sigh annoyed.
"What's that?" He points to a file on the computer.
"Stuff."
"What kind of stuff?"
"Work stuff."
"Ooh." He slowly moves his hand to the mouse and I slap it. "What was that for?" He whimpers.
"No touchy." I say and he pouts.
He lays his head on my shoulder and I tense, my eye twitching as I try to hold back from punching him. I'm the one who's supposed to be tormenting him, not the other way around.
"Carlos."
"Yeah?"
"Get off of me."
He sighs and stands up, sitting on the floor against the wall and laying his head on his knees. Is he trying to make me feel bad? He's going to have to try harder than that.
Carlos and I walk into my house.
"Oh my god this place is huge!" He screams.
"Shh! Shut up." I hush, hoping my dad isn't here. But of course, as if god knew what I was thinking, my dad walks in.
"Who's that? Is that god?" Carlos whispers to me. This boy.
"No dummy. He's my dad." I say.
"Who's this?" Dad asks me with a brow raised. He's not used to seeing me bring people home, people who aren't in the gang, anyway.
"This is Carlos. He's a friend from school."
"I'm your friend?" He smiles and I roll my eyes at him.
"Ok." Dad says. He glances at Carlos again before leaving.
We walk to my room and I drop my stuff on the floor.
"Do I get to spend the night here?" He asks with a hopeful smile like a five year old wanting cotton candy. I look at his pleading eyes.
"Fine." I sigh. Why would I say that?
"Yay!" He jumps up and down. I swear he is like a little kid sometimes.
I get in my bed and close my eyes. Suddenly I feel a weight next to me. When I look back i find Carlos is cuddled up next to me.
"Carlos." I groan. He lays his head against my shoulder. I stare at his peaceful, happy face before sighing and turning my head back around and closing my eyes. This is going to be a long night.
