This is a myth. I have dreamt multiple times about people that I've never seen in real life. In fact, it happens quite often. However, I still hear this myth going around that, since you've never seen them, your subconscious can't show them to you. But just think about this, alright? Your subconscious ignores logic. You can fly, you can breathe with your nose pinched, you can use magic! Why would this be any different? Your subconscious doesn't care if you've seen them. If your subconscious can think of it, then whether you've seen them in the past or not becomes irrelevant once you're dreaming.
