"Are you sure this is the place?" Gavin asked the android sat in the passenger seat, seemingly analysing the building before them. Conan nodded and placed his hand on the door handle, swiftly getting out of the car. He glanced up at the building and taking in its features. An old abandoned laboratory. It seemed to have been deserted for years, no sign of life was anywhere around the area, the building was crumbling, there were overgrown plants everywhere, smashed windows were visible and the whole place just looked dead.

"This is indeed the location the noises were reported from. The witness said it sounded like wailing but they weren't quite sure," Conan explained and began to make his way towards the front entrance of the building. Gavin followed after locking his car behind him, a small huff leaving his lips. He looked up at the sky that had just turned a soft shade of orange, shoving his hands in his hoodie pockets. He'd hoped to be able to go home before the night arrived, but Fowler had to be a dick and send them out to investigate this at sunset. They made it to the front entrance and noticed it was boarded up and padlocked.

"Well it seems like we're not getting in, let's just go home," Gavin mumbled and turned around to walk away but was dragged back when Conan grabbed his hood and yanked him back. Conan then noticed a smashed window a few meters away. He walked over to it and reached his hand in, unlocking the window from the inside before opening it widely. It was definitely big enough for someone to climb in to, and that's exactly what Conan did. He clambered inside, Gavin soon following with a grumble of protests that were purposely ignored by the other male. Conan squinted into the surprisingly dark halls of the building, getting a flashlight out and turning it on, shining it into the darkness. He walked forwards, Gavin following closely, looking a little disturbed and Conan noticed this.

"Are you alright, Gavin?" he asked calmly and Gavin shook his head, letting out a shaky breath.

"I hate the dark..." he mumbled quietly, not looking at the taller male. Conan frowned a little, then handing the flashlight to Gavin. His logic was if Gavin was controlling the light source, he would feel better, and he was right. Gavin's stress went down slightly and he looked a little less tense. Gavin took the lead, walking into the darkness with the light.

They didn't find anything unusual, just abandoned lab equipment everywhere. This place had been shut down for years and years, Gavin was beginning to think this was pointless and that the person that had reported the sounds was just delusional. He was pulled away from that thought when he heard a crash come from further into the building. He froze up and looked to Conan for some explanation, but the android looked just as bewildered and concerned as Gavin did. Gavin didn't want to investigate the noise, but curiosity got the better of him and he continued further down the halls.

The two reached the end of the hall, there was a door there, it didn't have a label on it like the other ones though. Gavin slowly reached a hand out and opened the door which revealed a set of stairs on the other side.

"I'm not going down there, fuuuuuck that..." Gavin mumbled, taking a step back. Conan rolled his eyes and snatched the flashlight from Gavin, beginning to make his way down the stairs. Gavin gulped, either he stay here alone in the dark, or he follow Conan down the creepy staircase. He was quick to go down the stairs behind Conan, staying close once again. Once they reached the bottom of the staircase, Conan noticed just how different this area of the lab looked. Thin metal hallways linked to each other like a labyrinth, open pipes and wires were visible and it generally had a more ominous tone. Both men jumped slightly when they heard the crashing sound again, but it was louder this time, they were closer.

They wandered down the halls in a single file since they were so narrow, soon they found a room they could enter, opening the door and walking inside. The sight they were greeted with was not pretty. There was what seemed to be a human corpse, but there was no real way of being able to know that due to how mangled and maimed the body actually was. Gavin saw the torso but no limbs were actually attached, not could he see any organs inside. Dried blood lined the walls of the room, it was clear this wasn't recent. Conan stepped closer to the demolished body to look more closely, ignoring the sounds of Gavin throwing up in the background. He examined the marks made on what was left on the body, quickly finding that no human could've done this.

"The marks were not made by a human, I... can't identify what did," Conan informed Gavin, turning back to find him wiping the vomit from around his mouth, a small pile of it in the corner of the room.

"Well then what the fuck did? Was it an animal? Wouldn't you be able to identify an animal's marks?" Gavin asked, Conan shrugged, simply repeating that he didn't know. The two left the room, much to Gavin's relief, and continued onward. The atmosphere around them was more than terrifying, but Gavin decided to try and make light of the situation.

"This is pretty fucking cliche, isn't it? Work partners/boyfriends exploring an abandoned building after hearing a noise, finding a dead body and continuing on anyway," Gavin said with a small grin, looking up at Conan, "I mean, it's almost like one of us is gonna die down here." Conan rolled his eyes and smiled slightly at Gavin's stupidity.

"You know that won't happen. I wouldn't let anything happen to you, I'd rather myself die instead," Conan said and Gavin chuckled, giving him a small shove.

"You romantic sap, I feel soooo reassured now," he said with a wide grin. He stopped walking and stopped Conan as well, turning the android towards him. He leaned up on his tip-toes and kissed Conan sweetly, wrapping his arms around his neck, Conan kissed back of course, his hands on Gavin's waist. The two eventually parted since Gavin was a human and needed to breathe.

"I'm glad I have my big, strong, scary boyfriend to protect me from the monsters~" Gavin chuckled, his chest pressed against Conan's and his hands resting on his shoulders. Conan smirked down at him, keeping him close in his arms.

"You should feel very lucky, I wouldn't protect just anyone, only you," Conan said softly, Gavin rolled his eyes at the cheesiness, leaning up and pecking his lips.

"Well I do feel lucky. Once we've finished with the bullshit down here, I'll give you a nice reward when we get home~" Gavin said with a wink, making Conan's cheeks tint blue in a blush. Conan didn't say anything, instead he just leaned his head down to kiss Gavin passionately, mainly just to shut him up.

The two continued to kiss in their embrace for a few minutes, before Conan felt Gavin tense up a lot. Conan pulled back from the kiss, wondering what was wrong. He noticed that Gavin's eyes were wide and his face was twisted in an expression of pain and fear.

"Gavin? Gavin, are you okay?!" Conan asked in panic. Gavin said nothing, his lips moved as if he was trying to speak but he couldn't. Then deep red blood began to pour out of Gavin's mouth, dripping down his chin and onto his and Conan's clothes, staining them crimson. Conan stared in horror, Gavin's eyes glazing over and he collapsed in Conan's arms. Conan yelled out Gavin's name more, trying to get a response from him. Gavin's body then lurched backwards out of Conan's arms onto the floor, right at the claws of a thing, and that's when Conan noticed the large scaly spike sticking out of Gavin's chest. Conan stared down at his boyfriend's body, tears pouring from his eyes in despair, he wasn't moving, he wasn't breathing, he wasn't alive. His eyes slowly moved up to look at what was now in front of him. A creature, a monster. It was tall, taller than Conan. It had sharp teeth inside a wide mouth, no eyes, no ears, no nose. It had a body that resembled that of an alligator, but with no tail. It was covered with dirty grey scales, and protruding from it's mouth was the long tendril that had impaled Gavin.

Conan was never sure in the past if he had the ability to scream, but now he knew he could.

And he screamed.
