The next morning Azia had enough magic to have new clothes appear for him to put on. The walk back to the palace took us till night fall. Healers met us at the gate. "What happened?" Xan asked me. "We were attacked by King Dimo, and a ton of demons. He changed to his other form and it left him really weak."
"What happened to his wings?" He asked. I blushed at the thought of the kiss we were going to share, "We had raced and landed in a field. He used his body to block a fireball when they attacked." I felt horrible that I was no help to him. Xan left me to go speak with the guards while I had an idea come to mind. I can't fight now, but I can learn. First I would need a sword.
When I got to Unif's station I saw that he wasn't here, but that didn't stop me from getting to work.
Azia's POV
The next morning I was walking around the palace as the sun was rising. Usually I would fly my patrol but it'll be months before that happens. I walked past Unif's station and saw Raven asleep with her head on the work table. I saw a beautiful sword by her. The blade sparkled, most likely made of Tonsa, the same metal many make jewelry out of. It was also very strong and light. Many blacksmiths don't make weapons out of it because it takes skill and time. The hilt was beautiful too. It looked like it held the night sky in it. A crescent moon made of the same material her blade was, was the pommel. Many might see it as a decorative piece but it you looked closer, you would see it was sharpened, meant to use to hook and cut into her enemies. She didn't have her scabard made though. I picked it up and surprised it was lighter than I thought it would be. Even the hilt was light. I turned it to see how thick the blade was but it was paper thin. The fact she made a weapon out of Tonsa to begin with was incredible. I wondered how it would fair in battle.
Unif came up and saw her asleep. "I heard what happened." He said. His eyes then went to the sword. "She make that?" He asked. I nodded, "Worked all night." He held out his hands, "May I?" I passed him the sword and he admired it. "Even the hilt is made of Tonsa." His voice was filled with amazement and awe. He placed it back on the table, "I'd hate to get cut with it." I nodded in agreement. With her skills, it could cut someone as if she was slicing the air.
I scooped her up in my arms. She grumbled in protest at first before relaxing into my arms. I smiled at her. Her ears were drooped and her tail wrapped around my arm. Her wings were folded against her back as I carried her. When I opened her door, Tessa lifted her head from where she laid on the bed. She wasn't the tiny pup I had first brought home. She was now the size of a full grown dog, but she wouldn't stop there. She'll become the size of a large horse. I was thankful our doors and ceilings were high, because Raven would have a problem with Tessa sleeping outside. Probably would sleep outside with her.
I scratched her under her chin before I took off Raven's boots and covered her with the blankets. I placed a kiss to her head before leaving the room. I continued my patrol, my head filled with thoughts. Usually flying during my patrol I don't usually have a head full of things to think about. It was easy and I could focus. On the ground my mind couldn't focus on one thing at a time. I shook my head with a sigh. These next few months were going to be killer.
What angered me the most about the incident was that my mate and I were having fun. It wasn't something I knew how to do before I met her. She always enjoyed a good adventure and challenge. When she tackled me, I was caught off guard, but it was fun. Her eyes sparkled with happiness. Then Dimo attacked. I growled softly at the memory of seeing his smug face.
After I unleashed myself on his men, I thought I would see disgust and fear in her eyes. Instead I saw concern. She was even willing to scarafice her sleep to make sure I was okay. She will never know just how much she has touched my heart. I now understand why my father had gone insane when my mother was killed. If anything happened to her, I would unleash a hell no one has ever seen before and I know I won't be the only one. She has touched the hearts of many, even though she might not realize it. Many would willingly go to war for her. I would lead that war.
She was pure, fierce, and brave. She deserved someone so much better than me, but that doesn't mean I won't try to prove myself every day of our eternal lives.
