                                                                          Chapter 5

"Good morning Laura." Bridget had said as she approached me at my locker that morning. "Good morning Bridget how are you this morning?" I ask as I finagle my books trying to figure out which ones I'll need for this morning's classes. "Come have a smoke with us before class." Said one of Bridget's friends whose name is Jody. "Oh no thanks, I don't smoke," I said. "Well just come and hang with us for a few minutes then." Bridget had said. "Ok, five minutes though," I said. So we walk outside to the main entrance. "My boyfriend's having a party this weekend you should come, Laura." Bridget had said. "Oh, thanks but I have to work." "Come on Laura lighten up have a smoke with us." Heather had said who is another friend of Bridget and Jody's. "Smoking is a good way to get lung cancer, so thanks but no thanks," I said as I walked away back into the school, the bell to go to homeroom rang as I opened the door anyway. "What was with you back there?" asked Bridget as she took her seat next to me. "What you do to your body is up to you, but that's not me, and I didn't appreciate being pressured to do something I don't believe in. It's not that I don't want to hang out with you and Jody and Heather because I do I just can't be getting myself into a bad crowd I have a clear head and things I want to do with my life, and I can't afford to mess things up for myself, I hope you understand." "Yeah, sure I understand." Bridget had said. "Thank you," I said.
