Chapter 10
That Saturday night after I locked up the coffee shop I drove the only five miles it was from the shop to Kyle's house. Upon approaching the front stoop of Kyle's house I can hear loud music blaring through from inside, I did not have a good feeling about this, I hesitated for a minute and considered just going home, but I rang the doorbell anyway. "Laura hi come in, you remember my friend Ryan don't you?" "Yeah hi how are you?" I asked. "You look lovely tonight there angel." Ryan had said while kissing my hand. "Oh, I'm not all that made up or anything I just got off work which is why I smell like coffee," I said. "You need to unwind after a long day at work, how about a beer?" asked Ryan. "Oh no thanks I'm driving I will take a soda though," I said sitting down on the couch. "Hey Laura how was the long day at work today?" asked Bridget who was sitting next to me. "Busy, I'm dead tired," I said. Ryan had brought me in diet coke, "Thank you, Ryan." I said as he sat down on the couch next to Bridget and me. "No problem sugar." I blushed I've never in my life had a guy be as sweet on me as Ryan is being. "Popcorn, chips, dip help yourself to whatever you see Laura." Kyle had said. So I helped myself to some chips and dip and some cheese and crackers. Music blared through the speakers we were all yelling at each other over the music. "Nah, Nah, honey I'm good I could have another but I probably should not I've got somebody at home, and if I stay, I might not leave alone."- "Andy Grammar" We all sang and danced to the music, and had snacks and drinks and mingled. "You have another beer you just had two," I yelled over the music to Bridget. "I hope you're not driving," I said. "Live a little Laura why don't you have one with us." Jody had said. "Thanks but no thanks," I said picking up my purse and turning to leave. "Laura where are you going darling?" asked Ryan. He looked like he was hung-over too he was stumbling over his own two feet. "I'm sorry Kyle but where are your parents? Do they know you're having a party with alcohol present?" "No, if they knew they'd kill me there closing up our summer home this weekend in Somerset Virginia." He had not been drinking and was clean and sober, and did not smell like smoke either like the rest of them. "I'm sorry Kyle, but this is not my idea of fun, I have to go this isn't my thing." "It's okay I understand come on I'll walk you to your car." Kyle had said.
