The letter:
Dear Pete and Patrick.
It's raining.
It reminded me that I hadn't sent a note in 2 days.
I bet you missed me.
You've never forgotten me.
You never will.
Even with cold metal rings holding you in place as you watch cranberry red seep from his head.
They say home is where the heart is.
Your heart belongs to him.
So if he dies...
Your heart goes down with him.
Such a funny feeling,
I won't need to cut you...I won't need to drown you...I won't need to shoot you...
I'll just kill you from the inside out

What they think:
Not much was said as Patrick started to cry which caused the rest to do so as well. The only thing they pull away is that they  think the letter is to Patrick and that Mr Semicolon will kill Pete.

What it means:
Their thoughts are correct. Luke is writing to Patrick and he wants to kill Pete.
The fact that "they will never forget him" is a fact that Luke/(Jason too) have tried to kill in the past. They can't forget that.
"Cold metal rings" is handcuffs.
The handcuffs will holding Patrick back as Luke plans to shoot Pete in the head which causes the cranberry red (blood) to seep out.
Since Patrick's heart belongs to Pete, watching his boyfriend die, his heart will die too. It'll kill him from the inside out (his heart is already dead)
