*after a week*
I was frantically searching through my closet to find something to wear when Mia popped her head into the room. "Whoa what's the rush?" she said with concern on her face. I groaned looking at the dress in my hand and tossed it towards the bed. Green wasn't really my color. "There's this art exhibition opening tonight, and Emma got us last minute invitations. Like always." I said rolling my eyes. Mia spoke, "Annnnnd let me guess, you have nothing to wear. As always" the smile on her face didn't go unnoticed to me. She knew the routine. Emma was one of my friends from college. Apart from studying law, we had one thing in common. Our love for art. Yes, we both appreciated art, but she had a keen eye for ceramic art while I didn't. I didn't feel the same amount of excitement as she did but I do enjoy our occasional visits to museums and exhibitions. She always got tickets or invitations at the last minute.
I told Mia that this was our first time at an opening night and I needed to wear something nice. "Are you looking for a gown? 'cause my cousin gave me this blue one saying she was getting too fat for it mainly due to her bulging belly and I think it will look good on you" I turned away from the closet with her words and spoke"Are you for real? But I won't look good in a gown and how do you know it will cover..."Mia sensed the anxiety in my voice and interrupted, "Oh please. You will look magnificent in it. Come on let's try" she spoke taking my hand and guiding me towards her room.
I stood in front of the full-length mirror, surprised at the sight in front of me. I have always stuck to dresses that come up to my knees so wearing a floor length dress, I felt like it was someone else in the mirror. The light blue fabric hugged my waist tightly and then flowed down loosely. The minimal design of flowers made it perfect for me. It was just the right amount and not too extravagant. "I knew this dress was made for you. It's beautiful". Mia said standing next to me and giving my shoulders a squeeze. I was beyond words when I heard my ringtone. I grabbed the length of the dress in my arms and walked towards my room. "Hey Em, ..... no, I'm not ready yet. ..... what? You are here? ...... okay Fourth" I hung up the phone and told Mia to buzz Emma in as she was already here.
I applied mascara, and then a little bit of blush on my moisturized face when Emma walked in with Mia trailing behind. "You look so pretty darling! You were right" Emma spoke exchanging a look with Mia. "What was that look?" I questioned both of them. Mia spoke hesitantly, "You are insecure about your looks and well basically everything since "you know wha"..." her voice trailed as I tried my best to hide the emotions on my face. I was scared. Terrified. I closed my eyes and tried to calm down by focusing on my breathing. When I opened my eyes, I saw petrified looks on both their faces. "Mia, do I smell something burning? ....... and you got a pimple right there" I said touching Emma's cheeks and then turning towards the mirror to apply the red lipstick. I heaved a sigh of relief as they both started running around thankfully ignoring what just happened a few seconds ago. I didn't want to be reminded of it and neither was I in a mood to talk about it. They have been trying to get me to talk, and I knew that a day would come when I tell them but today was not the day.
We barely got to the venue on time and as we walked in, my right foot hit the bottom stair and I almost cursed loudly. I bit my tongue as I tried to hold back tears. It hurt, and wearing heels were not helping the pain. I held on to Emma as I waited for the pain to die down. She gave me a look that screamed 'What the hell are you doing? I spoke in a low tone, "I hurt my foot, but I think it's going to be okay. We just need to wait for a minute for the pain to go down". She nodded, understanding me. As we stood next to the staircase, more people walked in and went past us giving us a hello, or a nod. I saw a tall man in a suit with an in-ear device walk towards us, and I knew time was up. "Ma'am, It's about to start, so if you could please go upstairs it would be very much appreciated." He spoke gesturing up the stairs. I plastered a fake smile on my face and said a simple sure as I dragged Emma by the elbow.
The night was a success and we got to see a lot of pieces from various new artists. Emma spent the whole night walking around, talking to the artists while I spent the better part of the night just appreciating the art. A few people came up to me and talking with them made me learn a lot about the cultures and inspiration behind the pottery masterpieces. After calling it a night we said our goodbyes, Emma and I headed out of the museum. As we waited outside for a ride I saw Mia's text an hour ago saying she was called in to the hospital. My ride was here so I gave Emma a kiss, murmured good night and got in the taxi. I was humming to a tune waiting for the lift and searched through my clutch for the keys to the apartment. A loud sneeze caught me by surprise, and I dropped my keys on the floor.
I bent down to get the keys and suddenly felt the warmth of another. I looked down to see another hand reaching for the keys. As my head turned, I was met with a pair of blue eyes that I could recognize anywhere. I stood up so fast that my head hit his jaw. I rubbed my head as I felt the pain through my skull. He must have hurt his jaw because he cursed. Our eyes met again and the same word escaped our lips.
"YOU!!!"
Hey guys
I'm thinking of writing the next chapter in the guy's POV
What do you think?
Should I do from one person's POV or from both?
Please leave a comment. :D
p.s. This is the rear view of the dress :)
