*All of Mia's dialogues are in italics*
I heard footsteps getting closer to me. I knew that could be only one person but I didn't want him to see me like this. I tried rubbing the tears away using my hands yet it just kept coming back. I had started hiccupping by then. I felt a hand on my shoulder and I raised my head "Are you okay?" I muttered go away before burying my head back in. He spoke again "Are you okay?" "Well what do you think? I am crying my eyes out in front of my apartment". I spoke in between sobs. "Just go" I said waving my hand for him to leave. After what felt like a few more seconds I heard his voice again "Do you want me to call your roommate?".
I groaned "Why are you still here? I don't need anyone".
"Do you want to talk about it?"
I was surprised "Why are you being nice? Don't you hate me?"
He spoke, "I do. It is still against my morals to leave a crying girl alone" He had a concerned look on his face.
I stared at him for a while before I spoke "Can I just cry on your shoulder?"
He sat down next to me as I turned to him and wept my tears of sorrow onto his t-shirt. After what felt like hours I got my head up. "I think I ran out of tears". He gave out a sound which I think was a giggle, as he was standing up. He took my hands and lifted me up. I muttered a thank you feeling embarrassed. "Say that again" He said with a small smirk. "No way neighbor. It was a one-time thing, we are back to hating each other right?" I said with a questioned look. He nodded with a "right" before leaving me and going back to his apartment.
I flopped on to the couch and exhaled when the lights suddenly turned on. "WHERE THE HELL WERE YOU?" a very angry looking Mia stood in front of me. My hands still on my heart I screamed back at her "You surprised me. I went back to the house.". "AH I was so worried" Mia said trying to hug me while I was sprawled on the couch "Was everything okay?". "unhm... let's talk later...." my voice lowering as I drifted off to sleep.
The next morning I woke up to the smell of burning toast. I coughed sitting up on the couch and stretching my hands high up in the air. I heard Mia cursing for a while and pots clinking into the counter before she spoke. "You are up?" "I guess I am" I stood up with my hands going through my hair, I felt my head throbbing. Mia spoke as I sat at the table. "You had me worried last night. You weren't here when I woke up and there wasn't a note or a text. I called you about 20 times".
"What?"
"How was the party?"
"Extravagant as always. I didn't want you to worry so I didn't tell you"
"Why did you cry last night?" My head shot her way.
"I cried?"
"Yeah it looked like you were crying for a while there. Your face was all puffy"
"huh but.... Wait... oh .... OH NO..... No No No Nooooooo" as realization hit me, I got out of the chair and started pacing.
"What happened? What are you doing?" A confused Mia looked at me alarmingly.
"I think..... I think I cried on our neighbors shoulder" I said cringing at the thought.
"Oh you mean Jay. He's a nice guy"
"You've met him?" My mouth must have opened enough to let an army of bees in.
"Yeah. Why do you look disgusted?"
"Well Jay is the guy from the cinema with the drink and the apology and crap" I said my hands flailing in the air.
"Nooo.. that's not him. Jay is nice" Mia waved it off. I gave her a look that said speak more.
"We met a couple of times and he even helped me carry up groceries"
"Well it's HIM" My eyes were so big it must have scared Mia that she took a few steps back.
"If so give him a chance. He is nice" Mia brushed it off and again asked why I cried. I narrated her everything that happened.
"Awwwwwn you crying on his shoulder. That's cute." Her smile was starting to give me a migraine. Is she rooting for us? 'Cause I don't see that happening in the future.
Jay POV
I was about to lock the door to the apartment when I heard faint sobs coming from outside. I opened the door cautiously and looked around. It was then I saw her. She was sitting there, crying into her arms. I can hear her sniffle every now and then. She raised her head with her eyes closed and I could see tears streaming down her face before she buried her head back again. She looked beautiful even when she was crying. I felt the want to comfort her. To wipe her tears away and bury her head in my chest. In that moment I forgot that I couldn't stand her. I felt the warmth spreading across my chest as my legs started walking towards her.
I heard her hiccupping as I got closer. She vainly tried to wipe her tears away but they kept coming back. I lightly touched her shoulders. "Are you okay?"
After I refused to go despite her attempts, she asked me if she could cry on my shoulder with her big eyes and beautiful eyelashes that I couldn't say no to. I sat down next to her and she leant into me, crying into me t-shirt. I could feel her heartbeat through my soaking t-shirt. In the beginning it was fast but then lowered to a normal level about 15 minutes later. Her head went up as she looked at me and said "I think I ran out of tears". A snicker escaped my lips as I stood up. She stood up with the support of my hands and whispered "Thank you". A red blush was creeping its way on to her cheeks. "Say that again" a smirk instinctively took over my face.
"......we are back to hating each other right?" maybe it way the way she said it that brought me back to reality. She was questioning it herself and so was I. I didn't hate her. I just couldn't stand her when she accused me of stalking her. She had the right to ask me for an apology but my ego got in the way. My ego was always the problem. "Right" I nodded and turned around going back into my apartment.
A/N:
I like to leave the tone of dialogues to your imagination because whenever I read a book I do the same thing. I hope you will give lots of love to Jay as well. :)
Please leave a comment so I would know I am going in the right direction or not.
