The trip to Mia's mother's house took longer than we anticipated. Of course Jay was to blame, he had messed up the timing and was fast asleep when we were supposed to leave. Mia had to drag him out of bed. As we pulled up to the Willis house, Mia's mother Grace, was at the patio to welcome us. She engulfed Mia into a hug as she got out of the driver's seat. As I got out of the car she came up to me and gave me a hug too. It felt warm, like how a mother's hug should be. She may not be my biological mother, but she cared like one. She held my shoulders at arm's length and gave a look over from head to toe before speaking.

"Luna darling! Have you lost weight? Has Mia not fed you well?" She turned to look at Mia, giving her a disapproving look. Mia shrugged and said, "She's an adult ma. She can feed herself".

Mama Grace ignored Mia as she took my hands and guided me towards the door, "Come on let's get some food into you..."

"Ah wait mama Grace," I held her back and turned her towards Jay and Mia was about to introduce him when Jay spoke up.

"Jay Salander here ma'am." Jay spoke taking Grace's hand. He was being a total gentlemen, giving her hands a light kiss, while Grace stood still slightly taken aback by his actions.

"Ma! Hello... earth to mom" Mia called her mother several times before she shook her head and gave Jay a smile. She shook his hand, "I'm Grace Willis, Mia's mother. Come on in." she spoke, leading the way.

Jay gave us a smirk before taking his backpack and following her.

"Well damn she forgot about me in 5 seconds as soon as a she saw another person she could take care of, I am sad" I said to Mia, taking my duffel bag from the trunk.

"Well she clearly forgot her own blood when you came along so I say get over it" Mia spoke as we made our way into the house.

My first step in and I could smell freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. Leaving my bag on the floor I ran to the kitchen where Grace was getting a new batch straight out of the oven.

She smacked my hand as they reached for a cookie, "These are hot"

"But those are the best ones" I whined. As she turned her face away from me I quickly took one cookie and dashed out of the kitchen. I could hear her shouting my name as I strolled through the corridor and out to the backyard. This house has a larger backyard than the one we lived in before. Grace loved gardening and the colors before my eyes showed how exceptional her skills were. I walked past the tiny patches of different colors taking it all in. My feet unconsciously took me to the edge of the fence where stood a tree stump. It had been there for years. I sat on it and the feeling of déjà vu took over. My fingers delicately stroked the peony. This had been my sanctuary for years. My parents' house was just a few blocks away so it wasn't much of a hustle to get here. Whenever I felt down, when things got hard, I came here. Even when Mia moved out of the house, I still came here. Grace would always open the door without a question and let me stay here for as long as I could. Sometimes when I came here at dawn, I would climb over the fence. She knew I was struggling but she never pried for answers or reasons. I haven't been here since me and Mia moved to the apartment.
