Previously on Luna:
"Jay is great. You two should really be friends" Mia spoke standing at the doorway.
I gave her a shy smile before a thought popped into my mind.
Color drained from their faces as I asked them "What happened to Leanna?"
*****
After a deafening silence, Mia spoke "She bolted after Jay came in between. I called your parents to let them know what happened. I didn't want to call the police knowing how well you hate drama, but the next time she does this I won't hesitate." She came towards me and placed her hands on my shoulders. "Luna. Listen to me. If you want to press charges you still can, but......."
"But what?" I looked at Mia waiting for her to finish that sentence.
"But what she needs is a psychiatrist, right Mia" a voice boomed over from the door as our heads turned to see who it was. My mother stood there, her head high up. She walked over to me and gave Jay a disgusting look.
"I don't know who you are but this is a family matter so get out. You too Mia" My mother is harsh.
Mia obediently got out of the room dragging a rather angry Jay. When they got out mother walked over to me. She started examining the machines around me and then her eyes settled on the bruises formed in my neck. She averted her glance before talking.
"I did not know your sister would turn out to be stubborn like you suddenly. She had been going on about him for days now, wanting to know where exactly he was. She had a breakdown last Sunday"
I opened my mouth in disbelief. "You knew she was in such a state and did nothing about it?"
"I didn't do nothing Luna. I never gave her information about where he was. I do not know where she got the information from." She sighed before continuing. "You know I am not the monster you make me out to be. I took your sister to see a psychologist. She seemed a bit better afterwards. How was I supposed to know she would do this?"
I scoffed "You are not a monster? Well then why didn't you come to visit me when I've been lying on this bed, unconscious for the last.... 19 hours?"
Her tongue got tied so fast that even Usain Bolt is shook. She kept staring at me.
"I figured well mother. Where is Leanna now?" My hands went up to my forehead. I think I am getting a migraine.
"I found her and checked her into a psychiatric clinic. The file she was carrying no longer exists." She hesitated before speaking ". I am glad you have a brain and won't be pressing charges"
"What makes you think I won't? After what she has done to me any person would"
She gasped "You wouldn't dare."
"Oh yes I would mother. You have no idea what I am capable of, but I won't this time."
Since my mother got what she wanted she walked towards the door preparing to exit. I spoke just in time that made her pause and turn around.
"If Leanna ever touches me or my friends like that again, I WILL NOT hesitate to call or press charges"
My mother nodded, getting my warning and went out.
I gasped for air, not knowing I had been holding my breath for a while.
I got discharged 6 hours later, so by the time we got home it was getting dark. Mia ordered a pizza for herself and Jay. Not having the appetite to eat, I showered before lying on bed. I stared at the ceiling, thoughts churning in my brain. After half an hour, Mia's head popped from the open door. She looked refreshed.
"Hey there. You going to get some sleep?" she spoke walking towards me.
"I am trying"
Mia climbed into bed and laid down next to me. "Have you been staring at the blank ceiling?"
"Yeah.................. Maybe I should paint something there."
"You should. Don't leave me anytime soon okay?" she spoke and her eyes twinkled.
I took her hands and reassured her "We will be together even when we are old and with no teeth. Even when you have great grand kids"
Mia laughed. Her laugh is contagious that I started laughing too.
"I am going to get some sleep now. I have to go in for my double shift early morning tomorrow so don't be surprised if you don't find me." With a kiss on my forehead she went out of the room.
I suddenly felt bad. She must have called in sick because of me. She must have missed her work and now she has to work double. Why am I always causing trouble for others? She and Jay stood by my side all the time when they didn't have to. Jay, a stranger even stayed with me when my own parents could not. Why am I such a burden for others?
Tears started pooling in my eyes and fell on to the pillow as I cried. I cried and cried until they stopped coming. I think my tear machine broke down due to overworking. I lay numb, staring at the ceiling. I heard the door closing meaning it must be early morning. I got out of bed and walked into the bathroom. I had dark circles and the bruises on my neck were redder than before. They must be angry because I did not rest.
I did not feel like eating so I spent the rest of the day in front of the TV. I watched movie after movie. I felt nothing. My stomach rumbled so I got up and drank from a juice carton in the fridge. I wanted to eat something but there was nothing home. I did not want to interact with anyone so ordering in was not an option. I was searching through the cabinets when I found some eggs, so I made scrambled eggs. For dinner.
"Luna. Lunaaa!"
I do not remember falling asleep but I woke up to someone shaking me. I was drenched in sweat. My eyes adjusted and saw a stunned Jay in front of me.
"You were screaming so loud I thought someone was trying to kill you" He looked concerned as he helped me up on the couch.
I gulped. "uh.. I had a nightmare"
A/N: Luna's relationship with the rest of her family is complicated and toxic as you can see. This does not mean it is a good thing. It is never okay to treat your kids like this. The only reason it is like this is to serve for the backstory of Luna. If you have any questions regarding any concept of the story, do comment below. :)
