Chapter Twenty Four

Flashback

"Rodney! Get your ass back here!"

I turn from my homework to see Rodney walk past the dinner table angrily.

"Rodney!" screams my aunt one more time

I see him stop and walk back to the living room.

"What Kelley?"

"Kelley? That's auntie for you!"

He roll his eyes and looks at her.

"Tell me why you have fucking crack cocaine and heroin in your fucking backpack..you could get expelled?"

"I don't know what you're talking about?"

"Cassandra!"

I jump up from my homework and I look at Rodney and then my aunt.

"Give it."

I look startled as Rodney looks at me with his eyes squinted.

I stare at him and he shakes his head.

"Cassandra!"

I jump again as I bend to the floor of the dinner table and I come back up with Rodney's backpack.

"How.."

"Shut your mouth!" yelled Kelley

I stand up and I walk awkwardly past Rodney to Auntie Kelley.

I hand her the backpack and she snatches it and zips it open. She goes through it fast and she raises two plastic bags of individually packed heroin packs and crack cocaine and bags of marijuana too.

"Marijuana too?" I whisper

I turn my head towards Rodney as he shook his head annoyed.

"You said you stopped with the weed?"

"I lied."

I look up and I look up at Kelley. She had her mouth shaped like an o and shook her head.

"Rodney? I thought you stopped.." she says with disappointment

"I'm sorry?"

I look at him, "Are you really?"

"This is the last time Rodney.." says Auntie

I look up at her, "Last time?"

"This time is the last.."

She opens her eyes and raises her pointer finger.

"You either stop with the fucking drugs or you leave my damn house."

I widen my eyes at Kelley.

"Auntie?"

"Ssh!" She turns to me, "Cassandra please."

I look down and then I look at Rodney.

"Well." I say angrily

He shakes his head as he shrugs his shoulders.

"I can't stay here if I can't do drugs.."

He frowns, "I'm leaving."

"Rodney!"

Kelley puts her hand in front of my chest.

"Leave him."

I look up at her as she flared her nostrils at him. I turn to Rodney as he turns for our room.
