April 2010

"Who the fuck is she?" I screamed into Julian's face as soon as he opened the door. "Who the fuck is she?"

Julian raised his hands, protecting his face while I lashed out at him. "What are you on about? I don't know what you're talking about, Buttercup."

"Don't Buttercup me, you two-timing asshole!" I shoved him back against the door. "How long has this been going on, huh? How long have you been screwing her?"

I continued to throw my weight against him, until he began to push back. "Now, wait a flippin' minute, Avery!" he yelled, pinning my arms down to my sides and skidding me into the lounge. "Tell me what the hell is going on? What girl are you talking about?"

"Oh, don't put on the innocent act. You've been getting all secretive again, like you were when we first moved in together when I didn't know about your part-time job. I followed you and saw you with her last week!" I squinted my eyes at him with my teeth grinding. "So, I decided to pay her a little visit."

Julian's eyes widened and I heard his heart jump a little. "Avery, what did you do...?"

I shook off his worry. "Oh calm down, will you? I didn't do anything like that, you halfwit. The broken-hearted girlfriend? I'm the first person they'd look at. We just had a little chat. Let's just say she won't be answering your booty calls anymore."

He clenched his fists and growled, "Jesus, Avery, it was nothing, just some harmless flirting! Why do you have to be like this?"

"Me? What do you mean why am I like this? I'm not the one sleeping around. You should be grateful I didn't let my anger get the better of me and actually do some damage." I tensed my hands and my fingers were visibly shaking. I rush towards him and pull at his tangled tufts of hair. "The way I feel towards you right now, I would love nothing more to rip that smug little grin right off." After a few moments of seriously considering it, I loosened my grip and took a step back. "But, I can't do that either. So, I'll just have to settle for putting you in jail."

He shook his head and laughed. Laughed. The fire roaring in my eyes exploded at the sight.

"Oh, Buttercup, you're not going to do that." He seemed so sure of himself. It made my blood boil.

"Really? You don't think I would do it? Come on, Julian. I thought you knew me better than that."

He raised his hands. "I have no doubt that you are perfectly capable of doing that, but I also know how self-preserving you are. You wouldn't take me down if it meant you came with me."

Grinding my teeth, I spat, "What the hell are you talking about?"

He slowly began walking towards me. "That night? I may have been in complete shock, but I wasn't debilitated. No, I made sure to get the evidence I needed, a video I could hold over your head like you hold those documents over mine." Julian was now breathing his words onto my skin. I could feel his heat joining with mine. "You aren't going to do a single thing."

I wanted to throw him backwards, pick up the phone and put him away for good. But one of the things I liked about him? He wasn't one to bluff.

I could almost taste his lips. They were so close to mine. The devil on my shoulder was begging me to lean closer, but the angel was telling me to turn around and back away. Just because I couldn't turn him in didn't mean I had to stay with him. Julian pressed his body into mine and I could feel all of him. The angel suddenly fizzled out into nothing.

"And there's no need to worry about anyone else. No one could keep me as interested as you can." His words were just sounds now, I wasn't listening.

I hurled my arms around him, yanked his head towards mine and our lips finally touched.
