Outside the house of brick
The wolf is very quick
"I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house down"
"No, not by the hair of our chinny, chin, chin"
Say the three little pigs, as they tremble withinThe wolf prowls to and fro
He howls a bit, for show
He huffs and he puffs as hard as he could
And the bricks hold firm and the house still stood
But the pigs still tremble – as they shouldThe pigs think they know all
But from their failure they'll fall
For the pigs neglect to look again
They assume the wolf is at its end
But little pigs, how wrong you are my friendsYou build your house
You think it can't be unbound
But the foundations are weak
And while you sleep
The wolf creeps down the chimney"What the hell is this?" James exclaims, his eyes fixed on the letter. "If they're trying to give us clues of some sort, can they not make it more obvious?"
Harry laughs. "That would make us redundant then, wouldn't it?"
Swivelling around on his chair, James sighs. "It doesn't make sense. It's just another thing we can add to the pile of doesn't add up." James glances up at Harry, unamused. "Why are you laughing at me? Stop it."
Harry holds his hands up. "I'm sorry, it's just quite a sight. To see you so stumped on something. I want to enjoy it while it lasts."
James doesn't seem entirely amused by him.
Perching on the edge of the desk, Harry leans over James's shoulder and studies the letter. "Okay, let's pick this apart. The pigs resemble us again – like in the drawings. The wolf must be GR, unless there is someone else we don't know about, of course. Then the house must be...the station? No..."
A light bulb appears above James's head. "Wait, say that again."
"The house is the station?"
James frowns. "No before that."
"Unless there's someone else we don't know about?"
Rising to his feet James exclaims, "Yes. That's it. What if there is someone we don't know about? We've been assuming this entire time that GR is a person – singular. What if there's two of them? What if there's always been two of them?" James's grin stretches from ear to ear. "Of course, that's why they directed us back to the first case. There aren't any loopholes in the investigation – the investigation was just carried out on the assumption that there was only one killer."
Harry stares at James, stroking his chin. He isn't convinced. "I don't know, that seems a pretty far stretch. I mean, I think it's a possibility, sure – but there's lots of things this letter could mean. The simple answer is the wolf represents GR. That way it's still aligned with the tale of the three little pigs. Besides—" Harry stands up and begins pacing. "If there are two of them, why would one of them be trying to hand the other one in? Why now? After fifteen years?"
James doesn't reply for a long time. He simply stares up at the ceiling and rests his hands on his belly. When he leans forward, he nods. "Yeah, you're probably right. I'm jumping to conclusions – I shouldn't do that. But it's still a possibility. Now, what does the house represent?"
