A few weeks or so had passed since my 'official' break up with Jackson, and I honestly could say that I was handling it pretty well considering I was still living under the same roof with him and I hadn't murdered him or Lexie yet.
"Got laundry?" April called from the hall.
Putting the book down that I was reading, I quickly gathered my dirty clothes into a hamper and opened the door, "Yeah, but there's a lot so I'll come with you."
"Perfect." April smiled as we made our way down to the laundry room.
Upon walking through the door and pushing past the hanging articles of clothing, we saw Jackson, without a shirt, making out with Lexie against the washing machine. April and I both let out a groan, causing the two love birds to look up at us. "Ugh! Is there anywhere you don't do it?" April asked. Everyone in the house had walked in on them making out or having sex at least once, and saying it was getting annoying would be an understatement.
Jackson and Lexie just nervously smiled. "No?" April sighed before throwing her hamper to the ground.
"You really have a death wish, don't you?" I too threw my hamper down, "Gag me with a spoon."
After getting changed and driving to the hospital, I did my normal routine and headed up to get a new patient and check on my current ones. Upon arriving, I ran into Alex living in a trailer in the hospital parking lot, and I knew that the race for Chief Resident was in full motion. I also remembered that Callie was having her baby shower today around 1 pm, so I had to somehow make room for that.
As I stepped out of the elevator and onto the floor I needed, I was greeted by Teddy shouting, "Door's opening!"
Looking down the hall, I saw Chief Webber stepping out of a bathroom and the Residents crowding around him, shouting things. "Quiet! Quiet!" Chief Webber ordered, "I haven't made my decision yet. Oh, get out of the way."
With that, he pushed through the crowd of Residents and walked away. After looking around confused, Teddy told me that the funding for the Chief's diabetes trial came in and everybody wanted on it. "Stalking a man while he's in the restroom?" Bailey asked as I walked up to the group with her.
"I'd clean the restroom if he'd let me on this trial," Jackson said.
"I'd live in it." Cristina one-upped him as April and Alex nodded.
Bailey shook her head, "You are surgeons. If you want to impress the Chief, impress him surgically. Avery, you're with me."
As the rest of them let out sighs of disappointment, Bailey turned to me. "Forrest, you're on Derek's Alzheimer's trial today."
As I headed towards the trial patient's room, I met up with Derek and Meredith. "Dr. Forrest."
Derek greeted me, "You're with us today?"
I nodded, "I guess so. Apparently the Chief requested me."
Derek smiled as we entered the patient room, "Ah, Sonya. You ready for the big day?"
"You bet." the woman in the bed sat up as she spoke, her accent very noticeable, "Try to shave as little of my head as possible. It's hard enough dating with Alzheimer's. I can't be bald too."
"I promise." Derek assured her as he turned to a man standing beside the bed, Sonya's son, "You must be Tarik. Congratulations on the marathon by the way."
Tarik turned to Sonya, "You didn't."
"He's not like other doctors." Sonya said, "He's actually interested in his patients."
Derek nodded, "Yeah, I heard you just moved back from London."
"Yeah, I came as soon as you accepted us into the trial." Tarik told us, "I can't thank you enough."
"No, I'm glad you're here." Derek humbly said, "Thank you. All right, I'm gonna let Dr. Grey and Dr. Forrest get on with their work, and I'll see you in a little bit."
As Derek exited the room, Meredith and I stepped closer to Sonya. Meredith smiled, "Okay, Mrs. Amin, I'm going to say three words to you and ask you to repeat them back to me later. Truck. Cabin. Spoon."
"Truck. Cabin. Spoon." Sonya repeated, "Okay."
Meredith handed me the clipboard as she showed me the ropes, this being my first official trial patient. Looking down at the questions, I nodded, "Uh, what did you do for Thanksgiving last year?"
Sonya thought for a moment, "Oh! I was in London visiting Tarik."
Glancing up at Tarik, he shook his head. "What?" Sonya asked, "Why? Is that wrong?"
"Last year, you were at the Simmons', remember?" Tarik told her.
"No. I was with you and Gavin in London." Sonya said, "I have that picture outside the palace."
Tarik shook his head, "That was three years ago, mom, before we broke up."
"You really should call him." Sonya changed the subject.
"He broke up with me." Tarik sighed, "We're not getting back together. Sorry. Out of all the things she can't remember, she still remembers the ex."
Meredith looked back at Sonya, "Okay, starting at one-hundred, count backward by seven."
"One-hundred." Sonya started, "ninety-three..."
