The ice-cold handcuffs dug into my skin as the guard dragged me back down the familiar hallway to my new home. I dreaded these halls yet the dim, damp environment was inviting. I could hear faint moans and groans coming from the cells. Most were completely clear floor to ceiling, and most were tucked away behind large metal walls. They only had small windows at the tops which allowed restricted access.
I winced as i felt a harsh tug on my cuffs. The guard looked back at me and scowled. "Stop falling behind. You want torn arms on your first day?" He asked.
I shook my head no.
"Good, cause you're gonna have plenty of opportunities to get things torn up in here." The guard laughed. My heart beat a little faster at this statement. I was scared. I didn't want to get hurt, I thought I'd be safe here.
When we neared my cell, I noticed an inmate causally leaning against the wall, glaring at the passersby. When our eyes met, he blinked a few times, looking at my form up and down. We stared for a few seconds, I couldn't help but take in his odd features. Green hair, chalk-white skin. Piercing eyes, it looked as if he hadn't slept in a very long time.
His muscular body was apparent under his thin clothes.
"Alright, barbie, in here." The guard spat as he pulled me violently into the cell right across from the green-haired mans and threw me carelessly in. I lost my balance and fell on the bed with a gasp. The guard came in after me and took off the handcuffs. I immediately began to rub my wrists as he left, my eyes welling with tears.
I could feel eyes on me but I didn't dare look up. I knew he was looking.
I straightened up on the bed and sighed. So this was my life now?
"Hands in the air, clown!" I heard a group of men shout, pointing their guns at the green-haired man who was bunking ahead of my cell. My eyes shot up and i watched as the man calmly complied, being handcuffed and then put in a straitjacket. Right before he was pulled forcibly down the hallway towards the medical room I was in previously, he glanced at me and winked.
I couldn't help but look on in nervousness, watching them disappear down the hall.
I could feel my cheeks heat up at his actions. He may have been odd-looking, but he was quite the looker.
-----------------------
It had been hours since I had been placed in my new 'room'.
Since they dragged the man living across from me down the hall.It had been an ominous few hours and I had given myself to sleep. A quick nap.
I lay down now looking up at the ceiling. It was ugly. So ugly. But I couldn't help but think it was just like my heart. Ugly. That's why i was here.
That's the type of people that came here. The uglies. We never deserved to be in society. We didn't deserve better than cobwebs and dust, and a concrete mat of a cot to sleep on forever. Tears stung my eyes as I tried to remember the events that led me here. Two years worth of memories and that was about it. I didn't want to cry. I was over crying. I had cried enough.
I could faintly hear footsteps and my eyes were averted to the hallway, watching for the individuals walking towards my cell. With each step they took, their feet clicked louder on the concrete. I slowly sat up and watched the same group of guards as before.
Only this time, they were supporting someone.
I watched as they placed the same green haired man on the cot and walked away. I gasped when I got a glimpse of the mans face. His eyes were closed and his face glistened in tears. The sides of his head had two round circles and he wasn't moving.
He almost looked dead. I leaned onto the clear wall separating my cell from the outside and i stared. I observed him closely, trying to make out any movement indicating breathing. Was he breathing?
I observed his face further. Various tattoos littered his body all over. He looked almost angelic now. He also looked familiar but I couldn't place my finger on it. Whoever he was, I still wondered why he was locked up in this place.
Even though he seemed incredibly handsome this close, he might have been like my on the inside.
Ugly.
