Name: Joaquim Luis Ferreira da Costa
Age: Twenty-five
Sex: Male
Appearance: Joaquim fits every part of "Tall, Dark, and Handsome" to a T—standing at six feet, four inches tall, he looms over his mother, father, and little sister like a cranky, somewhat foulmouthed clock tower. His eyes are black and his hair blacker, while his skin is the deep brown of an homem pardo. Joaquim's build is perhaps not as strong as he would prefer, but he inherited his father's broad shoulders and narrow waist, and a job moving crates has managed to preserve both.
Personality: Joaquim possesses a curious sort of resilience which mocks the very traits usually associated with it. Namely, he is strong but nowhere close to silent: his tolerance to pain, labor, or annoyance is second to none, but he has no intention (or desire, for that matter) to endure it quietly. As such, Joaquim is the man you call to get something done, but only if you're also prepared to endure creative complaints, colorful profanity, and an attitude which is less 'no-nonsense' and more 'vehemently and vocally anti-nonsense.' In certain doses, he is considered delightful. In other doses, one wonders if gagging him is the only way to shut him up.
Background: I'm sorry, were you looking for a tragic backstory? You won't find one here. Happy family? If you don't mind the occasional (loving) argument which breaks the crockery or occasional window, look no further than the da Costa home. Stable job? As stable as jobs in Bahia come for non-college educated twentysomethings, at least. Fulfilling relationship? Well...okay, not yet, but he's looking. He'll find a nice girl any day now. Really.
Other: Should he be glad his mother made him study English? His kidnappers sure think so!
