Name: Iosefina "Io" Matua
Sex: Female, and you can try but she's asexual as fuck and will without a doubt turn you down.
Age: 24
Physical Appearance: Io is a proud Native Hawaiian, and you can see it in every little feature. While she'd say her most prominent feature is her large nose, her deep brown eyes have a distinctive golden sparkle to them that almost seems to light up when she gets excited. Along with the bronzed warmth of her skin, this at times makes her appear like she's glowing from within. She might as well be; she radiates positivity when she walks, and a large smile often takes up the majority of her heart-shaped face. With curly hair that reaches down to the small of her back, Io simply looks quite kind. Who wouldn't want to be kind?
Personality: If there's one thing that her parents taught her, it's that you can only be truly happy if you're living every day passionately and truly yourself. These are values that Io holds close to her heart, and they are practically the pillars of her personality. By nature she is a curious, intelligent, and kind soul, and when she is interested in something she gives it well over 150% and she won't quit until the job is done. This eagerness and positivity sometimes makes her come off as a bit of a workaholic, but she doesn't see a problem with it as long as she's doing something she cares about. When Io cares she does so deeply and intensely, and she's not afraid to show it. She's proud of who she is, and she sees no reason to hide it.
Background: Io's first and only love is the world above her head. She was first introduced to the stars through the stories her father would tell of how her ancestors would use them as their guide to cross great oceans, and she's been in love ever since. By freshman year of high school she stopped going by Sefina, started going by Io (after one of the moons of Jupiter), and began her preparation towards her future studies in astrophysics. She had her life planned out to nearly the year, and she was perfectly on track. Things couldn't have been better.
It was only the summer after she graduated with her master's degree that things went wrong. Her brother Oliver, a trans man who had just graduated from Julliard with a bachelor of music in composition, had missed his flight home to Honolulu for the summer. Upon further investigation the Matua family discovered that nobody had heard from him for three days. A police investigation turned up no leads. Io is currently in New York and is taking a gap year before she begins her PhD studies to try and find out what happened to her brother. Overall her quest has been unsuccessful, but something's telling her that she's close to cracking the whole case open.
