Title: Wolf Hall
Genre: Historical drama
Years on air: 2015 (six-part miniseries)
Network: BBC
Main Concept: Follows the rise of power of Thomas Cromwell in the court of King Henry VIII.
The miniseries was based on the novel Wolf Hall and it sequel Bring Up the Bodies, both by Hilary Mantel.
Starring: Mark Rylance as Thomas Cromwell
Damian Lewis as King Henry VIII
Claire Foy as Anne Boleyn
This miniseries focused on the life of Thomas Cromwell, Henry VIII of England's most notorious minister, and his rise to power in the king's court. The historical Cromwell helped Henry VIII to establish himself as the head of his country's church, successfully breaking away from the Catholic Church. By doing that, Henry was able to divorce his first wife, Catherine of Aragon, and marry Anne Boleyn, his second wife. And when Henry wanted to get rid of Anne later on, Cromwell was key in doing away with her, and I think the show did a great job of showing all of that.
Thomas Cromwell really did seem to be a sketchy character, and I think Mark Rylance's portrayal of him was excellent. If you're interested in English history, I would recommend this miniseries, and I would recommend reading Hilary Mantel's books, too.
