I don't think this show really needs much of an introduction, given its mega-popularity and enormous fanbase and all the awards it's won. But those who haven't seen it, Sherlock is basically meant to be modern adaptions of the original Sherlock Holmes stories.
The reason I think this show wound up being so popular is because it is a well-written show. The writers clearly knew a lot about the original stories and I think it was a really interesting idea to put the characters and stories in the 21st century. For me, Benedict Cumberbatch is still behind Jeremy Brett and Ronald Howard when it comes to my favorite Sherlock Holmes actors, but he very good.
The reason I've listed the series as having already ended is because it doesn't seem likely at all that there's going to be a fifth series, and if there is I think it's going to be a long time before it happens.
