Chapter 20 "Card Game":

(Time Skip: Two Week Later):
Clem's POV:
It has been two weeks since Gabe and I have gotten together and things have been going great between us. We either spend our time hanging out with AJ, scavenging for food, or kissing in private. Because as much as I love Gabe I'm not ready to come out about our relationship to the others. Not that I'm embarrassed to be with Gabe but because I'm usually not one to be open about my feelings to a lot of people. Gabe and I did promise each other however that once people know about our relationship then we can get more intimate without all the privacy. You know kissing, nicknames, and stuff. We haven't told AJ either because were saving that to be a surprise. I mean he did guessed that we liked each other so best to leave telling him to last. Although we're going to wait I can't wait to tell AJ that we are actually together. And that way the three of us can be a family. The only real family I have had in a long time.
It was now dinner time as everyone began to head towards the dining session. I was with AJ as we were really hungry. I looked over at one of the tables to see Gabe already waiting for us as he gave us a little smile and wave as we waved back. Also at the table was Louis, Thomas, and some girl I've never met before while Violet say at a separate table with Tenn. We both sat down next to him as Omar came with a some little kid with him. "Attention ladies and gentlemen. Dinner is served." He said as he and the little boy began distributing the soup between all of us. The boy then handed AJ and I our soup as he just stared at me and said in a creepy like voice, "Hi Clementine." "Uh... hello?" I asked back a little weirded out. "You're pretty. Like... Really pretty." He said even creepier as he does and just stared at me. I became so weirded out at that moment that I had a scared look on my face. "OK time to go kid!" Gabe said to him as he then began to walk away while still kind of looking back at me. "What the hell was that about?" I asked Gabe looking back at him. "Oh please forgive Willy. He is a fucking weird kid." Gabe responded. "Yeah no shit. He gives me the creeps." I said as Gabe chuckled and said, "Yeah again sorry about that. But don't worry I won't let them get too weird around you or AJ." I smiled and started digging into my soup. "Mmm! This is really good." I said in a enjoyment as Gabe replied, "Yeah Omar is a great cook." As we were eating we heard Louis burp and the girl I didn't know start to get annoyed. Just then AJ burped as well as the girl then said, "Would you both please excuse yourselves. Just because the world died doesn't mean manners did." Just that I decided to join in the fun and burped as well cause and Gabe to chuckle and burped too. This only made the girl more annoyed as she looked really pissed off. "Would you guys please knock it off?!" She said as Louis said back, "OK OK guys. Let's chill out a bit." before burping yet again causing us all to laugh hysterically and the girl to leave in frustration. "Oh come on Ruby were just messing around." Gabe said as she just flipped us all off.
AJ finished his bowl and tugged down on my jacket. "Clem, I'm still hungry." He said as I shrugged and replied, "I'm sorry AJ. I think they've spent enough food as they are willing to." Gabe then slid over his bowl to AJ and said, "Here you go kiddo. I'm all full." "Thank you, Gabe." He said as he began to eat what was left of the soup. "No problem AJ." He responded as I just looked again with a loving smile as he had the same look at me. "All done." AJ said almost instantly. "Yeah so am I. So what now?" I asked as Louis then turned his chair around so he can lean on it. "Now it's time for something very important." He said while holding up a deck of playing cards. "Violet, it's time!" He yelled out to her as she then walked over and sat at our table. "So what's the game tonight Louis?" Thomas asked him. "War. By far the oldest and greatest card game to ever exist." He said. "Well second to best card game, Louis." Gabe told him as Louis looked back at him with a confident face. "War is better than euchre, Gabe. The sooner you except that the better you and your life will be." He as I giggled from their ridiculousness. "You can say that all you want Lou never be true." Gabe said back as Louis just rolled his eyes. "You keep telling yourself that." Louis snapped back with humor.
"Get ready losers. Because it's time for you all to lose." I said with a grin of confidence as Louis replied, "Oh shit! I like that." "Bold talk." Violet said as I shook my head and said, "Uh-Uh. True talk." "It's easy. Everyone gets a stack of cards and everyone flips one over. Highest card wins." Thomas explained to me. "And the winner gets to ask anyone a question. Especially Clementine." Louis added as I got confused by that last part. "Why ask me a question especially?" I asked Louis as he distributed the cards between the five of us. "Well we don't know much about you even though you've been here for a week. I want to get to know you. We all do well except for Gabe because you two already know each other." Louis explained. "Wait what about AJ?" I asked looking next to me seeing that AJ was gone. "What about him? Looks like he's already made a friend." Thomas said as I looked behind me to see AJ hanging out with Ten. "Come on. You can take your eyes off him for one card game can't you?" Gabe asked me. "Yeah I bet you two could really use a break from each other." He then added on. "Yeah maybe. This is the first time he had ever been around someone his own age. Sometimes he really asked more like an adult then a kid. It's nice to see him act like a little boy again." I said while secretly holding Gabe's hand under the table without anyone noticing for a second until we broke our hands apart to play.
"Louis if you will." Gabe said as Louis flipped over his card as we all did the same. "Way to go me." Violet said as she had the highest card. "So about AJ. Where are his parents? I mean You two don't look related so I just thought I'd ask." Violet asked me. "They're dead. They were very nice people. Well for the most part." I answered. "That makes sense. He's a nice kid." Louis said. "Yeah for the most part." I added on. We then flipped the cards again as I looked around and saw I had the highest card. "Hey I win." I said in joyful victory. "Hey you did. What do you want to know?" Louis said as I began to think of a question to ask someone. "So what's up with your haircut Louis?" I asked as Thomas said, "Oh here we go." "What... What do you mean?" Louis asked me back. "She says it looks like Willow Smith fucked Bob Marley and their love child was your goddamn hair. Like a deformed squid." Violet said as I giggled to myself as I saw Gabe doing the same. "Whatever. It's illegal to look better than I do." Louis said as Violet immediately came back with, "Well shit guys I guess were all going to jail." Everyone then laughed as Louis playfully he folded his arms and said, "Whatever Vi." which made us laugh more.
We then flip the cards once again as Gabe excitingly shouted, "Oh hell yeah motherfuckers!" He then looked directly at me as asked, "So Clem, this is something I've wanted to know for a long time and it's been driving me crazy for years among other things. What's your last name?" I paused for a moment as so much time had passed I didn't even remember what my last name was. "Honestly I don't even remember." I said as Violet scuffed and asked, "How the hell do not even remember your last name?!" "Well so much time had passed that I don't even remember so I'll just say it is... Everett." I answered. "Clementine Everett. I like the sound of that." Gabe said as he caused me to yet again smile as he knows how to do that best. We flipped again as Violet won once again. "Ha ha! Victory Violet! So here's a question I like to ask when I'm in groups. Out of the five of us, which one do you think is gonna die first, Clem?" She asked me. "I do t know. You? Probably?" I said as she raised her eyebrow with a frown. "Why probably?" She asked as I replied, "You asked a morbid question. There's your morbid answer." "Oh shit!" I heard Louis say as we flipped once again.
"Oh boo ya!! Thomas for the win!" Thomas said as he then went to ask his question. "So Violet, did Sofie ever you know...say anything about me?" He asked her. "If you're asking if she ever told me she has a crush on you, the answer is no." Violet answered as Thomas now looked disappointed. "But she never said she didn't either." Violet added trying to make him feel better. "Oh... Well OK. It's just that I wish I could've told her how I really felt you know." He said as Violet nodded and we flipped once again. "Oh shit! I won again." I said as I one yet again. "Indeed you have. Ask away." Louis said as I thought of a question. "So you guys meet anyone famous out there?" I asked the whole group as Violet simply replied, "Nope." "Too bad. You'd figure a movie star would be out there somewhere." Louis said. "They had millions of dollars. They are probably living in a bunker with butlers and waterbeds out the ass." Violet said as Louis replied, "Yeah true." "I met Bill Murray." Gabe then said as everyone then frozen look at him was surprised looks including myself. "Hold on, wait a second. You met Bill Murray? Like Ghostbusters Bill Murray?!" Louis said fanboying a little. "Yeah. There was a point in time after my home was destroyed that I spent in Los Angeles. I needed a place to stay so I stayed in one of the Hollywood suites. It just so happened that the one I chose belonged to Bill Murray. Lucky for me he was alive and covered in muerto make up. We spent most of our time together just messing around with this replica proton packs and just having a good all-time until... well...." He said before pausing. "Until what?" I asked him. "Well the guy I was traveling with at the time thought he was an actual muerto and accidentally... shot him dead." He finished as Louis just said, "Oh. How... How unfortunate." "After that me and my friend stayed there for about a few weeks before having to get back on the road. But it was pretty nice to meet him I guess." Gabe concluded.
We then took another flip of the cards as I won for a second time in a row. "Oh hell yeah double win! So Gabe I have to ask, whatever happened to your beanie?" I asked him. "Well long story short, it was burnt up. I had some trouble with the Raiders as they said my cabin on fire and I ended up losing it." Gabe said as I just nodded and we took yet another flip as now Louis had the highest one. "I am the greatest card player of all time." He boasted. "Again second to best." Gabe said back with a smile. "If you are really the best Gabriel, it would be you with the highest card and not me." Louis returned as Violet exclaimed, "Just ask your goddamn question already!" "So Clem, have you... You know what, nevermind." Louis said backing out. "What? Ask it." I told him. "It's kind of a personal question." Louis tried to warn me as I just said, "Just fucking ask it." "So uh... ever uh... ever had a boyfriend?" He asked as my eye got wide and I felt nervous. "Oh my God!" Violet let out as Louis said back, "What? It happens. Perfectly valid question. You can ask me if I've ever had a girlfriend. I haven't by the way." "Oh I'm sure she's really surprised about that." Violet joked as I looked over at Gabe and saw him with that adorable smile that always melts my heart. "So Clem, have you?" Louis repeated his question as I was contemplating whether or not I should tell them or not about me and Gabe's relationship. He basically came to the conclusion that we would have to tell them anyway so might as well do it now than later. "I... I do have a... boyfriend." I admitted to them as particularly Louis looked shocked. "Wait do? And not did?" He said as for some reason Thomas had a smirk on his face. I just nodded my head as Violet asked, "That's... That's great Clem I guess. Who is it?" I then looked over at Gabe as we both stood up and held each other's hand. "It's Gabe. We are... in love." I said to them as they had looks of surprise again except for Thomas. "I don't believe you. Prove it." Louis said with a doubtful voice. "Well how do we do that?" Gabe asked them. "Kiss each other right here right in front of us." Louis dared us as I looked back to see AJ still playing with Ten. "Hey AJ. It's time for bed kiddo. Why don't you head upstairs and I'll meet you there to tuck you in." I told him as he nodded, said goodbye to Ten, and left to our dorm.
After AJ left, the two of us didn't hesitate and kissed each other passionately in front of them. We didn't care about the embarrassment well least I didn't. I was just enjoying his smooth lips on mine. Eventually one kiss turned into multiple as we can keep each other apart. I wrapped my arms around his neck while he wrapped his around my waist as we both deepened the kiss even more. "OK OK!! We asked you guys to kiss each other not have a full blown make out session!" Louis yelled as it snapped us both out of it and we separated lips. "Well that convinces me. Congratulations you too." Thomas congratulated us. "Thanks Thomas." Gabe said as I began to yawn. "Well guys it's been fun but we should probably get to bed now." Gabe said as he yawned as well. "OK well good night you two lovebirds." Louis joked as we began to walk away. "Oh and Gabe! Wear protection alright! We wouldn't want a little you running around the school anytime soon!" Thomas yelled out as  Gabe flipped him off and we walked towards my dorm. We walked in to see AJ was already asleep on top of this covers as it brought a smile to my face. I then walked over to his bed and carefully put them in the cover so we can wake up. "Good night my little goofball." I said before heading towards the spare bunk bed right next to ours so I could talk to Gabe some more. "So everyone knows now." Gabe said as we both sat down on the spare bed. "Yeah and I don't feel embarrassed by it. If anything I feel relieved that they know so we don't have to hide our feelings for each other anymore." I said as we lied down next to each other. "So is it OK if we... cuddle for a second." Gabe asked sounding embarrassed. "Sure why not? We are boyfriend and girlfriend after all." I said is Gabe smiled and we both laid on the bed together to cuddle. "I love you Clementine. With all of my whole heart." Gabe said lovingly. "I love you too babe." I said asGabe looked happily surprised. "Oh were using nickname now? You're really ready for that?" He asked me as I yawned one more time. "Yeah we agreed that once people knew we could use them so here we are." I replied as my eyes felt extremely heavy. We shared another quick kiss until all of a sudden everything went dark as I fell asleep.
