Approximately one year and six months passed after (Y/n)'s unfortunate confession in which she was brutally rejected. Over that time, her feelings for Katsuki had dissipated to being non-existent, as if they were not even there in the first place.
And (Y/n) was both relieved and grateful. Grateful because she didn't have to no longer pine after someone who neither cared nor bothered about her.
It was a long and grueling process to get over him, someone who she was never with in the first place but she did it. With the help of her friends and activities to get her mind off him, she finally forgot about him.
Well, not completely, considering the fact that they were neighbors and since joining U.A, she was assigned the seat in front of him. But that wasn't all that bothered her. No. In fact, that was the least of her concerns.
A few months into the new high school semester, for some reason, Katsuki had stopped acting like himself. He was still his usual hot-headed, hostile, ever-swearing self but then he'd occasionally have these unusual moments where he'd sometimes stay silent while his eyes stared at nothing with a rarely calm expression on his face.
It had begun to freak some of his classmates out and after hearing stories about his "episodes", (Y/n) would constantly wonder why she'd never seen him in such a state.
Simply because he'd become like that only when she wasn't around.
When she was, he always took any opportunity he had to terrorize her. Whether it was tripping her whenever she passed his desk, flicking the back of her neck in class, kicking the bottom of her chair, "accidentally" bumping into her and blaming it all on her by calling her fat and blind, stealing her stationery, pulling her ponytail when she was paying attention to the teacher, almost burning the back of her head with his death stares or randomly insulting her even when she was literally minding her own business.
Since it began, she had tried brushing off his sudden weird behavior but somehow it started to seem that the more she ignored him, the more he harassed her. Further worsening the situation, she couldn't get him to tell her why he did it or to stop either. But as the days rolled by and more shit started to happen to their class, that new part of him became a routine and slowly but surely, she started getting used to it. Although, that didn't mean she stopped questioning herself over what prompted his behavior towards her and his motive behind all that.
While (Y/n) kept mulling over the matter, the terrorist himself knew why he did it.
It was all because he had a huge crush on her. A crush that was birthed from her confession back in middle school and had taken him one year to accept.
Freaking out wouldn't be the appropriate term to define what he did upon noticing the "strange" feelings. The correct term would be; he went absolutely ballistic.
Instead of relishing in them and taking them as they are as some would, he spent his time and energy trying to ignore it. His pride and ego simply could not accept that he, Katsuki Bakugou, had fallen for, in his own words, a fucking extra. To him, (Y/n) wasn't anything special. She didn't stand out, she wasn't extra-ordinary, her grades were subpar, she looked plain, hell, if life was a game, she'd pretty much fit well as a background character.
If he were to choose who he would be with, naturally, he'd go for the fucking best. Someone who was strong like him, someone who could take him head on, someone smart, someone who stood out for fuck's sakes!
So then, how and why did he like her in the first place?? How could be so fucking reckless??
They were repetitive questions that Katsuki had gotten tired of asking himself on a daily. He had tried anything and everything from blocking her out of his thoughts, avoiding her, engaging in preoccupying tasks to pretending like she didn't exist, the whole nine yards.
