"Midoriya!"
Said male, who was heading to the bus, halted in his steps to look over his shoulder, and a bright grin appeared on his face.
He switched his briefcase to one hand before sending a wave back at his buddy, Hadashi. "Bye!"
"Bye!" Hadashi cupped his hands around his mouth. "And hey! Next time we meet, remind me to show you my private collection, okay?!"
Anticipation twinkled in Midoriya's bright green eyes and he nodded. "Sure!"
Hadashi gave him a thumbs up and a wave before jogging towards their school bus.
Midoriya lowered his hand to tightly grip onto his bag's strap and he bounced on his toes. Another friend made from another school...awesome!
"Deku!"
The boy turned to the girl bounding towards him and his face lit up. "Uraraka!"
"I forgot to congratulate you on getting fourth place earlier! I'm so happy for you!" beaming, Uraraka leaned closer to him and balled her hands into fists. "You guys worked hard today!"
A squeak passed Midoriya's lips as he tensed up from the abrupt intrusion of his personal space. A wobbly smile made its way to his flushed face and he scratched the back of his head.
"Tha-Thank you, Uraraka," he breathlessly stuttered, his eyes never still and never looking at her except in passing. "I-It was just t-teamwork!"
Uraraka clasped her hands behind her back and leaned back to give him space. "It really paid off then."
Thanking the stars that she had backed up, Midoriya tugged at his shirt collar to cool off and awkwardly chuckled. "Uh...yeah, um, it did..."
He threw a nervous glance at the bus and did a double-take when he spotted (Y/n) a distance away, heading towards the same direction. His smile faded and his arm slowly dropped to his side.
"Wow," Uraraka, who hadn't yet noticed Midoriya's diverted attention continued, "you know it's like we haven't seen each other the whole day," she toyed with a lock of hair as she smiled shyly. "I really miss-"
Midoriya snapped his eyes back to her. "C-Can you hold that thought please?"
Uraraka's fingers froze around her hair. "Huh? Wha-"
The boy looked back at where (Y/n) had disappeared off to and he frowned. "I need to check up on (Y/n) first and see if she's okay," he turned back to her. "Is that alright with you?"
"Oh..." Uraraka's face fell but she quickly replaced it with a tight smile and nodded. "Y-yeah. I don't mind. I mean she did-"
"Thank you!" Midoriya waved at her over his shoulder, already walking off towards the bus' direction. "You can tell me what you wanted to later!"
I didn't finish... "It's alright," she muttered to no one in particular while she sent a weak wave back, "it wasn't that important anyway..."
When his back was turned to her, she slowly dropped her hand to her side and a sullen look took over. She thinned her lips as she stared at the boy running off to her best friend.
There he goes again. Worrying about her...
Catching herself, she groaned and smacked her palms to her cheeks. Ugh, what am I thinking? (Y/n) is your friend, and Deku's too. It's natural for him to worry about her.
Plus...her hands slid down her face and she cast her despondent gaze to the cobblestone ground, I shouldn't be feeling this way, especially after choosing to focus on achieving my dream instead of pursuing him.
