"You may have to fight a battle more than once to win it"

When we arrive by the hall, Aragorn throws the doors open and stands before the king and his men. Slowly the Ranger walks up to the king. 'We have to prepare for battle! A great host is on his way!' He yells, silencing everyone. Théoden, who sits on his throne, looks shocked. 'You fell' Is the first thing he says. Aragorn stands now before him, with me and Gimli and Legolas besides him. Legolas has almost invisible, his hand on his friend's shoulder, for comforting but also for helping him stand.

You can't see it but Aragorn is exhausted.

'Yes I fell, but I am here now to tell you all that a great host is on his way!' Aragorn hisses, angered by the king, who is denying Aragorn's warnings. Théoden signs and falls back in his throne. 'A great host, you say?'

'All Isengard is emptied' Aragorn answers. 'How many?' The king asks emotionless, staring at the Ranger. 'Ten thousand strong at least' Théoden looks like he doesn't believe it. 'Ten thousand?'

'It is an army bred for a single purpose ... to destroy the world of Men' Aragorn says griming. 'They will be here by nightfall' He continues. Théoden stands up from his throne and walks through the hall, he is considering his options, but we all know what he is going to do. He is going to lock us in, let the army come and it wipes us away..

'Let them come!' The king exclaims and walks out of the hall.

Just what I thought and I look to Legolas. He is shaking his head and when he meets my eyes, I can see the fear in his.

We are immortal, but only heart-break and falling in battle can kill us.

Do I want to die in a battle where I don't belong?

This is not what we as fellowship agreed too, right?

I don't remember anymore, we are gone from home for almost six or seven months..

Someone shakes my shoulders and I wake up from my daydreaming. Aragorn's tired but also concerned face is before my own. 'Meleth?' (Love)

'It was nothing, just thinking.. I tell you about it later' He nods and his hand grasps my hand and together with Gimli and Legolas, we follow the king towards the battlements. The king and Gamling walk around, pointing to certain points. 'I want every man and strong lad able to bear arms to be ready for battle by nightfall' Théoden orders Gamling and with that the man is dismissed. The king turns to us. 'The plan is like this, We will cover the causeway and the gate from above. No army has ever breached the Deeping Wall or set foot inside the Hornburg!' Gimli looks bored towards the plains. 'This is no rabble of mindless Orcs. These are Uruk-Hai. Their armor is thick and their shields broad' The Dwarf says almost angry. 'I have fought many wars, Master Dwarf. I know how to defend my own Keep' The king answers Gimli and walks back to the keep. Silently we walk after the king, we all know Gimli is right. The king leads us towards the end of the battlement, overlooking the plains. 'They will break upon this fortress like water on rock. Saruman's hordes will pillage and burn. We've seen it before. Crops can be renown; homes rebuilt. Within these walls, we will outlast them' Théoden adds. Aragorn steps closer to the king, holding still his hand in my own. 'They do not come to destroy Rohan's crops or villages. They come to destroy its people ... down to the last child!' Aragorn says, I can hear he is angry. 'What would you have me do? Look at my Men. Their courage hangs by a thread!' The king says quietly, angry. Ashamed Aragorn looks away, knowing what the king means. 'If this is to be our end, then I would have them make such an end as to be worthy of remembrance' The king adds and walks away. 'Send out riders, my lord. You must call for aid!' Aragorn pleads, turning towards the king. The king turns around and comes over towards Aragorn. 'And who will come? Elves? Dwarves? We are not so lucky in our friends as you. The old alliances are dead' He says doubtfully. 'Gondor will answer!' I say, trying to lift the kings spirit up. Théoden looks at me with anger in his eyes. 'Gondor!' He cries out angrily. 'Where was Gondor when the Westfold fell? Where was Gondor when our enemies closed in around us?! Where was Gon--?' He recollects himself and turns back at Aragorn. 'No, my Lord Aragorn...we are alone' Again he turns around and walks away towards the hall, Gamling following close. 'Get the women and children into the caves' I hear the king say. I turn around, not wanting to hear more..
