"That's $5.30 please," the lady at the till smiled at Sara. Fishing out the correct change and handing it over, Sara thanked the woman and picked up the cartons of milk she had bought for herself and Jasper.

As she was walking away, the strap of her bag got tangled in the railing of the cultery cart and Sara was jerked back, the milk cartons falling from her hand. They fell to the ground, spilling their contents all over the marbled floor and Sara gasped in shock.

"Gee, thanks for that!" A voice sniggered from behind her and Sara turned around to see that some milk had split over the shoes of the boy who was behind her in the queue.

"Oh crap, I mean, no! I'm really sorry," she grabbed some tissue and knelt down so that she could clean off the excess milk that was dripping from his shoes. "I really didn't mean it, it was a total accident," Sara fumbled and looked up at him.

"Sorry."

"Wow! These were my new trainers you dork! Klutz much?" he scowled at her and began laughing at her with his friends who were alongside him in the queue.

"Look," Sara began. "I'm really sorry, I..."

"No, save it geek! You're f*cking crazy!" He rolled her eyes at her and sniffed at her as though she stank of garbage.

Sara hissed through her teeth and stared right into the boys eyes. The brilliant blue of his eyes and the way he ruffled a hand through his dirty blonde hair almost caused her to swoon over him. But his personality seemed horrible and so she kicked herself for finding this rude and impertinent boy attractive.

"I said I was sorry. There's no need to be rude about it!" she spat at him and crossed her arms over her chest.

The boys around him began to "ooohh" and "aaahh" as Sara stood her ground and raised an eyebrow at him.

"No, Tyler bro, are you gonna' take that?" a boy sniggered in his face. Tyler punched him in the back lightly and turned back to Sara.

"So what, you think that's funny? You're a loser! I don't know who the hell you think you are? I don't even know your name?"

Sara smiled slyly at him. "Oh, is that a pick up line? 'Cos it sucks!"

"A pick up line," he began. "You think that's a pick up line? You think anybody is gonna' wanna' pick you up? Nobody knows who you are, freak! So why don't you just go back to your little geeky friends and go play math quiz or something?"

Sara gawped at him before realising that their little spat was gaining alot of interest from the people in the cafeteria. Girls were pointing and whispering to each other; surely they saw that it was his fault? He was the one being rude.

Sara hated speaking rudely towards people, she hated being the typical loudmouth teenager. But she wasn't a pushover and she certainly wasn't going to let someone walk all over her for something that wasn't her fault.

She was pulled to the corner by Jasper who grasped her arm firmly. "C'mon Sara, leave it. Let's get outta' here!"

"No!" she pulled away. "Jasper, this guy was being a total tool, you saw him, right? I mean it wasn't even my fault!" Sara turned back to the boy who was now laughing with his friends about something.

They couldn't be laughing at her, right?

Wrong. Very wrong.

The moment they all turned towards her and laughed even louder was the minute that Sara saw how cruel high school kids could be. She felt tears welling up inside her and her lip began to quiver. She forced the tears back and felt an arm grab onto her shoulder.

"C'mon Sara, it's not worth it man. Let's just go." Jasper pulled Sara in towards him and guided her out of the cafeteria.

As they left through the large double doors, the cafeteria erupted with laughter and Sara buried her head deep into Jasper's shoulder. The warm woven jumper that he wore provided her with some comfort as she felt a tear race down her cheek.

How could people be so horrid? She hated them. She hated him.

She really, really hated him...
