"Yeah, he's doing okay I guess," Sara spoke quietly into the phone. "The doctor said that he woke up this morning for a few minutes. I mean, that's good news, right?" She paused as she listened to the voice on the other end of the phone. "Yeah, I guess, sure."

"Who's that?" Tyler called out from behind her as he held out a steaming cup of hot chocolate in his hand. Sara mouthed something back and he nodded as he went over to the chairs near the window.

"So have you thought about it?" Sara returned to her phone call. "Well, yeah, school's fine. Actually, I'm staying home this week. No, no, I'm not in trouble." There was a slight pause as Sara felt anger build up inside of her. "WELL," she yelled out into the phone. "MAYBE IF YOU WERE HERE, YOU'D KNOW ALL ABOUT IT!"

Tyler looked up from where he was and saw that Sara's face was red with fury. After she finished listening to the voice at the other end, Sara screamed out in frustration:

"YEAH, AND YOU KNOW WHAT MUM? DON'T EVEN BOTHER COMING BACK!"

"Woah, woah!" he exclaimed as he approached her and held her by the shoulders. "Calm your sh*t yeah!"

"Don't even dare p*ss me off Tyler - I've had it up to here!"

"Then stop getting so angry all the time. You're here for your dad, see, your dad... Not mum, dad," he drawled as though he was speaking to a three year old.

"D*ckhead!"

Tyler rolled his eyes and tugged at her arm. "C'mon. There's someone who wants to see you."

"Dad?" Sara stared open mouthed at the sight in front of her. Her father was sitting up on the bed, sipping water from a small glass.

"Sara?" he beamed a smile at her as she came into view.

"Oh my god Dad!" she exclaimed, running over to the bed and sitting on the edge. Her father took her hand in hers and stroked her face with the other. "I've missed you so much," she whispered.

"I've missed you too my little cherry blossom," he smiled into her hair.

"Dad," Sara shyed away at the use of her nickname when she realised that Tyler was still in the room.

"Where's your mum honey?" he looked earnstly at Sara.

Immediately, Sara felt her body freeze up and the smile dropped from her happy face. The sadness of not having her whole family together pricked her inside and she felt a sharp, saddening pain in her body. Her father noticed a tear escape from her eye and wiped it away with his thumb.

"She's not here," Sara cried on her dad's shoulder. "She's gone - she's really gone."

Jasper: sooooo what did they say?

Sara: hes fine, he shud b coming home soon. Sara smiled to herself as she read Jasper's message and typed out a reply.

Jasper: :) :) im so happy, we shud celebrate.

Sara: me toooo! how?

Jasper: i dunno, cinema?

Sara: im broke dude :( aaaand we still need 2 start the project. ive done nothing :/

The project had been occupying her thoughts for a long while. The deadline was in just over a week and they hadn't made much of a start. It almost made her reconsider her decision to allow Tyler, Adam and Ryan join their group. Brushing the thoughts away, she turned her attention to her phone.

Jasper: fine fine. ill come 2 urs & we can start

Sara: u mean Caseys

Jasper: i mean Brees

Sara sat up suddenly and realised that Casey was a very touchy topic to bring up around Jasper. Ever since Casey had lost control and lashed out at her, Jasper did nothing but clench his fists and growl at the sound of Casey's name.

Sara: ur a loser :* yh ok, text me then. night! X

Jasper: always ;D night, sweet dreams :*

After re-reading his last message, she placed her phone on the bedside table and sunk into the bed. The warmth of the sheets welcomed her as she sighed and stared up at the ceiling.

Maybe things were finally going to be okay. Maybe everything would just fall into place so that she could be truly happy again. It's not that I'm not happy, she thought to herself, because she was happy. But now that her father was awake, Sara felt whole again. She felt like she was her real self. The real Sara.

I like the real me, she smiled to herself as she closed her eyes and turned off the night lamp beside her.

She stared out into the black darkness of the room and quickly fell asleep.
