"I outta' break his jaw!" Jasper exclaimed as he paced around the corridor. It was nearing the end of lunchtime and he had just about recovered from the realisation that Sara had been hit earlier that morning.

"No, Jasper, please, calm down," she begged, leaning her back against a locker.

"How can I calm down?" he flung his arms in the air. "Dya' know what Sara? He has pulled some stunts in the past, but this one... this one beats them all! What - does he think he can just rage around town punching everyone?"

"Adam deserved that," Sara interrupted.

"Why are you defending him?!"

She bit down on her lip, unaware of what to say.

"Look at what he did to you," his tone relaxed as he raised a hand to her chin. "He hurt you Sara." She still couldn't find the right words. "He hurt you," Jasper repeated, his voice becoming empty and hollow as though he hadn't gotten over the shock.

"Yeah," Sara began. "But he al..."

"DON'T. EVEN. TRY. TO. JUSTIFY. THIS!" Jasper spat in annoyance and fury. "He isn't getting away with this. No chance in hell!"

"Look," Sara grabbed his attention by taking his hand. "Let's just go to class, okay? We can talk about this later. It's not important."

"Is," Jasper retaliated as they approached their lockers.

"Isn't."

"Is."

"Okay Jasper," she sighed, taking her books from her locker. "Okay."

As lesson started that afternoon, Sara was greeted to: "What the f*ck happened to your face?" and "Yikes! You look like sh*t!" from Tyler and Adam.

Rolling her eyes, she attempted to shut them up so as not to draw more attention to her face. But, she didn't need to as Mrs Hardman walked around and slammed a book down in front of them. "Mr Macey, I hope I don't have to give you a second detention this week."

"No miss, no," Tyler shook his head quickly.

As students began working again, Tyler kicked Sara's leg under the chair. She turned to glare at him before rubbing her shin.

"WHAT?"

He pointed towards her jaw and threw her a puzzled look.

"It's nothing."

"Yeah," he huffed quietly. "Sure looks like nothing!"

"Why do you even care?"

"Who said I did?" he raised an eyebrow, a sly grin coming over his face.

"You're a jerk," she hissed.

Tyler dropped the subject and returned to (pretending) to read the book in front of him as Mrs Hardman stood watching over him. He turned around to smile at her and she nodded in approval:

"Hmm," was all she said before going off to inspect someone else.

"I think she digs me man," Tyler finally said to no-one in particular sitting at their table.

Immediately, Sara and Jasper scoffed, trying their best to hide their giggles behind their hands. "Dude," Jasper began. "She's old enough to be your grandma!"

"That's so wrong," Sara laughed.

"Tyler here," Adam said as he patted Tyler's back. "Tyler likes to think that he can get any girl he wants."

"Any girl?" Jasper raised an eyebrow.

"More like any grandma!" Sara chuckled again.

"Watch it smart a*se!" Tyler piped up. "You don't want the other side of your face looking like that now do you?"

The atmosphere at the table immediately heated up as Tyler said this and Sara felt Jasper freeze in his seat next to her. She gave Tyler a disappointing look and he sank ever so slightly in his chair. He looked almost guilty and Sara sensed this, so, she didn't retort to his snarky comment.

"What the f*ck man?" Jasper exclaimed, his body tensing up. "That's sick!"

Tyler gave a quick nod and threw Sara an apologetic look which she acknowledged but didn't reply. "Yeah, sorry man," he sighed, looking at Jasper.

"Don't say sorry to me!" Jasper spat, directing his gaze towards Sara.

Again, Tyler nodded in agreement and finally, Jasper let it go, turning back to his work.

Sara felt her phone vibrate in her pocket and whisked it out from her jacket, holding it tightly under the desk. She found that she had an unread message, so she unlocked her phone.

Tyler: im sorry

Sara: for what? She still didn't look up from her phone.

Tyler: that was a d*ck move

Sara: yeah, it was

Tyler: so am i gud?

"Who's that?" Jasper asked, peering over her shoulder to glance a look at her phone. She quickly shoved it back in her pocket and gave him a sheepish look.

"No-one," she replied, leaving Jasper looking somewhat confused.

Looking up at Tyler, she stared at him for a moment before giving him a small smile. He nodded and Sara continued with her work.

Somehow, the history of medicine through time wasn't enough to take her mind off things. Not Casey. Not Tyler. Not her dad - or her mum. Nothing. It was all a bit of a blur - her thoughts clouding her mind. She sighed inside and redirected her gaze to the book in front of her.

The words looked jumbled up, a confusing flurry of letters and numbers. Everything seemed to float around on the page - her head became heavy as she tried to regain focus.

But, she couldn't.

By now, the words were a massive blur, sending her head spiralling around in circles and then down onto the table. Her eyes closed shut as she let out a little moan and her body slumped forward.

"Sara?" she could just about make a few worried cries.

"Sara?"

That voice again.

She couldn't find it in herself to respond. She had no strength left.

"Sara?"

She opened her mouth and tried to force the words out. Nothing.

And then, all she saw was black...
