“So you’re trying to tell me that she actually gave up her life to help them? But she didn’t even know them?”
“Yup,” Sara replied as she looked up at Tyler before opening her locker. “Hey, you just realised what you did right?”
Tyler nodded before smiling down at her. “It’s no big deal,” he held his hands up. “I just walked you to your locker – it’s normal sh*t alright?”
“Yes,” Sara drawled before beckoning towards a few people who were staring at them. “But to them... We’ve practically hooked up. Heck! I’m probably even pregnant with your kid...” she laughed but her face dropped when she saw Jasper standing a few feet away.
“Now that’s a sick joke!” he chuckled sarcastically before turning around to stomp off.
“No! Jasper, wait, one sec...” Sara slammed her locker shut as she threw Tyler an apologetic look. He held his hands up and bit down on his lip. “Someone’s boyfriend is a bit stroppy!”
Tyler’s comment earned a few laughs from kids milling around and Sara turned back towards him.
“Now would be a real good time for you to stop acting like a little kid and man up! Here’s a thought – why don’t you try acting more your age?” Sara shoved him back, staring him right in the eyes.
“Really? I’m the one acting like a little kid? You’re the one that’s crying all the time!”
“Are you f*cking kidding me?! You think that’s a joke? I’ve had a real hard f*cking time lately and y’know what, you’ve just been making it worse!” Tyler stood in shock and Sara contemplated shutting herself up but something in her didn’t allow her to do this. “No, you know what Tyler? Thanks – but no thanks!”
“Are you for real? You’re throwing this sh*t back in my face? After everything...?”
“Yeah!” Sara exclaimed, flinging her arms out in the air. “Yeah – that’s exactly what I’m doing!”
“So that’s it? You’re just gonna’ give up like that?”
“Give up on what Tyler?! I’VE ALREADY LOST EVERYTHING! EVERYTHING!”
“Really? Really Sara? Are you f*cking blind or something? You’re so stuck up your own a*se that you can’t see the sh*t that’s staring you right in the face!”
Their argument was causing quite a scene and the atmosphere in the corridor was becoming heated and tense. Sara looked around to see that people were watching them with great interest and she immediately felt herself shy away slightly.
“So what is it?” she whispered, clenching her fists to avoid hitting out at the lockers nearby. “What is it that I’m not seeing Tyler? ‘Cos I really can’t see it!”
“No, y’know what? Forget it! You’ve made it pretty clear that you don’t want me around! I’m sorry Sara! I’m so f*cking sorry that I tried helping you! Okay? I’m sorry that I was one big f*cking pain in the a*s! ‘Cos gee, for a second I had myself fooled – I really thought you were different.”
Sara felt her heart break as Tyler finished yelling and turned away from her to face a locker. Screaming out in frustration, he lashed out at the nearest locker, causing a small dent in it. Sara felt herself gulp; she felt both guilty and hurt.
Alone – Sara felt alone.

“I figured I’d find you here,” Sara shut the door behind her gently as her eyes adjusted to the dim lighting in the newsroom.
