Welcome to the Masquerade

Whenever I think of a Masquerade

I think of a Masquerade ball,

With gorgeous dresses and everyone in beautifully decorated masks

But that's not what a Masquerade is

The definition of Masquerade

Is a false show or pretense

Pretending to be someone one is not

Behind the dresses, tuxes, and masks is

Maybe someone you didn't expect

They could be a killer, the nerd of the school, a simple businessman,

You won't know

The girl standing in the back of the room all by herself,

Could be the most popular and well-known person,

But you won't know

You don't know,

You don't know if you're going to be stabbed in the back,

If the person in front of you is your best friend, or someone who sounds like them

So many people can deceive you

The bullies at the food table could be complete scaredy-cats for all you know

Because of a piece of plastic,

We don't know the difference between Strangers and Family,

Friends and Enemies,

Fake and Real

The mask you see is an illusion,

When you're there you'll do one thing you would have never done if it wasn't for a mask concealing you face,

Hiding your identity

We walk around every day with a mask on,

Whether we know it or not

Because we are fake

Because when you say something that isn't true, you're becoming something you're not

And this is Life

This is your Masquerade
